Approval of Minutes from Oct 3, 2022 – motion by Andrea, seconded by Jenna

Principal’s Report –

EQAO results – grade 3 reading 90.5, writing 71.4, math 81

Decoding as a skill is something that will be worked on in the future instead of rote skills like spelling. It will be a board wide initiative.

Looking into why there is such a change between grade 3 and 6 for math results.

Boy’s basketball team – went to finals and had a nail biter game.

Lego club just finished.

Homework club is running. Kids can stay in at recess to work on schoolwork.

Jungle sport was a tremendous success.  Every class went in every day. At other schools, classes usually only get to go in 2x during the week.  Chris suggested that we not book Jungle Sport for next year and instead do it every 2/3 years to keep it new and exciting.

There will be no holiday concert this year.  Mr G has been off for 3 weeks. Suggestion made to do a joint venture between school and council – gingerbread making, snacks – Tuesday, Dec 20 as a suggestion.

Poinsettia fundraiser – made just over $500 for the school.

Treasurer’s Report – account is sitting at $11 702.64 – $7 600 once poinsettias order and pizza orders are removed.

General Discussion

Poinsettia Fundraiser Debrief – Great organization for the pickup.  Cashless worked well.  The word of mouth and seeing the arrangements at the conference night will increase sales next week.  Put the call out sooner next year.  Having pickup during the student led conferences was a bonus.

Council Holiday Activity – Hot chocolate, gingerbread ugly sweater cookies/gingerbread houses (hopefully donated), google form to register families to come in, use props from last year’s holiday activity.  6:30-8 on Dec 20th. Council will get the cookies and man the hot chocolate station.  Google document will be created to further plan this event. Chris will promote the event and get us numbers.  Karmyn will set up the google doc this week.

First Day Back Idea – Warm welcome back in Jan – hot chocolate on the blacktop. 297 kids, ½ with adults – do it on the first Friday, January 13.

COBS bread FYI – If you mention MacMillan, a small portion of proceeds comes back to us.  Usually get around $100/year from COBS. John will ask if they have compostable cups to donate for the hot chocolate day.

January/February – what do we want to work towards? Next meeting is Feb. Maybe a movie night? Have a license and working sound system. Motion to run a movie night – Sarah, seconded by Jenna, Feb 28th would be a great night.

7:10 Meeting adjourned
