Welcome! In order to create the best learning environment possible, classroom expectations have been developed for our students and I ask that you and your child read through this syllabus carefully together. Course Objectives: Earth & Space Science is a physical science that studies the dynamic processes that shape our planet earth as well as investigates our place in our galaxy and our universe. Earth & Space Science is a discipline of science that interacts with other sciences to understand our planet and in this course we will be investigating astronomy, geology, meteorology, and oceanography to better understand what makes our Earth so unique. We will be accomplishing this by taking an in depth look at the history behind earth astronomy and geology, recreating a timeline that helped develop this science, recreating the experiments done by scientists in the field that helped develop the sciences by conducting lab/group work assignments which require students to explore the physical (astronomical & geological) world around them, investigating and debating their controversial issues, researching the latest missions and discoveries as published by NASA, NOAA and other organizations dedicated to understanding our physical world. This course will involve outdoor activities.

Grading Policy: In this class you will complete hands-on activities, assignments, tests, labs and projects.

Group/ Pair Work Activities: Students will be doing a lot of group/pair work in this class. All students are expected to contribute to the assignment and to work collaboratively with the other student(s) in the group. A rubric will be used for all projects. Students in the group may or may not receive the same grade. This depends on effort and classroom contributions,

Make-up Work: (excused absence) (ACBOE Policy 5.3): Your absence is your responsibility. If you know you will be out make arrangements with me to get your work before you go. If at all  possible, do your missed work before the next time we meet. All assignments are on schoology. Upon return to school see me to arrange a reasonable length of time to make up your work, not to exceed two (2) weeks as per the student code of conduct.

Notebooks: Notebooks are a major grade. You are responsible for everything if you are present or not. Writing absent on a page will get zero credit. You will be given at least 2 weeks notice of the due date for your notebooks. The notebook will be due the first day and accepted without penalty at least the next two days. The day after that it will be accepted at a 50% max. After the 50% max  day the notebook will not be accepted for that quarter. Those with extended time those two days without penalty are your extended time. If you are going to be on a field trip or out for any reason on the due date, turn it in early.

Late Work: Test corrections and Notebooks will not be accepted late under any circumstances. The due dates for those items are given well in advance and have a range of days that they will be accepted. All late work will be docked 15%. The maximum possible grade for all late work will be 85%. Commitments to sports, band, dance, cheerleading, drama, or any other extra-curricular activities are not a reason to turn in late work!  I will accept work for the first four weeks of a quarter until the progress report comes out with a 15% deduction for late work. Work from week 5 - 8 will be accepted late, with the 15% deduction until 3 pm Friday of the 8th week. No work will be accepted after these time periods. Basically, everything before the progress report is  only accepted during that time period and everything after that until the end of the quarter.

Cheating: Will not be tolerated. If I suspect that you are cheating on a test. That test is voided and you will be given an alternate test on another day, which will be scheduled by me, that is a short answer and essay test.

Food and/or drinks: Food and/or drinks: Food and/or drinks cannot be consumed or insight on lab days. Otherwise, be discrete, do not share and clean up after yourself.

Cell Phones or Other Electronic Devices  Cell phones will only be permitted out according to the  school policy. As soon as you enter my room they are to be stowed in a bag and silent. The only devices that will be permitted during instructional time are either the school assigned chrome book or your personal laptop/chrome book that is being used for school work. Ear buds/air pods are only allowed out when watching individual videos that are part of my lesson such as edpuzzles.
