Kenneth Norris Ure, 80, died November 5, 2018 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born October 18, 1938 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the family of Gilberta Stimson and Kenneth Ure. His youth was spent in the Miller Beach area of Gary, Indiana. Kenneth served his country honorably in the US Army from 1956 until 1960. He worked in the trucking industry before his career of 30 years with National Steel, retiring in 2001.
Kenneth was married to Sigrid Faye Ure for 42 years. He had 2 daughters from a previous marriage, Brenda (Dave) Burkett of Valparaiso, and Melissa (Jason) Smith of Bloomington; 2 stepdaughters, Denise (Mark) Farrar of Spencer, and Laura Boyd (Mark Lehker) of La Porte; 6 grandsons; 1 granddaughter; and 2 great-granddaughters; 1 brother, Clare Stimson of Mexico; 1 sister, Sandra Ure of Chesterton. He is preceded in death by both parents and a stepsister.
Kenneth helped start the Portage Junior Miss Softball league and was a board member 3 years. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union. Kenneth moved to Spencer, Indiana after retirement and helped get Owen County Humane Society open and running. He also managed the shelter for a year. He loved traveling and history. Many vacations involved seeing the historic landmarks of this country.
