Erin's Law requires public schools to teach child sexual abuse and exploitation prevention classes to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. This training is geared for those who have experience with the evaluation process and require

recertification for the 2022-2023 school year. Administrators are only required to attend one session

during the year. This training is structured so that participants will consider the nine required elements

in-depth for lead evaluator certification. Lead evaluators will have the opportunity to consider credibility

factors as an evaluator, inter-rater reliability, and providing quality feedback that will strengthen student

learning and teacher effectiveness.

This comprehensive two-year professional development empowers teachers to understand the science behind how students learn to read and why some students struggle. LETRS participants will deepen their knowledge of the what, why and how of scientifically based reading instruction - while sharpening their ability to diagnose why students are struggling and how to provide proven interventions. LETRS professional development is delivered in a series of units that address each essential component of reading instruction and the foundational concepts that link each component. The full LETRS course is two volumes (volume 1 focuses on word recognition; volume 2 focuses on language comprehension). In addition, participants will receive a LETRS manual and access to an online learning platform with additional professional learning about the Science of Reading. We will be offering Year 2, Volume 2 in a similar format during 2023-24.

This course is a phonics-based, structured, systematic, multi-sensory, sequential, and cumulative method for teaching beginning, at-risk, struggling, learning disabled, dyslexic, and ELL readers. Participants will learn about the role of the brain in reading and dyslexia. Early warning signs, as well as critical indicators and core deficits, will be presented. We will review special education law with an emphasis on specific learning disabilities and dyslexia. A discussion of clinical diagnosis versus educational classification, and IEPs versus 504 Plans, will guide participants to consider these nuances in the contexts of schools.

This Knowledge Block is appropriate for anyone seeking to gain a greater understanding of the school psychologist’s role in educational assessment for dyslexia, including critical evaluation areas to target. Specific test measures and key interpretations needed to render a dyslexia classification will be examined. OneNote is a digital notebook that automatically saves and syncs your notes as you work.
