2020-21 School Access Route Plan

Oak Canyon Junior High

In accordance with state standards, Oak Canyon Junior High has identified school access routes for Oak Canyon students who live within the walk boundary established for the school.  A map showing the identified routes can be viewed by following this link.

The intent of a School Access Plan is NOT to identify every school access route or to identify the more convenient school access routes; it is to identify main walk/bike routes that students can use to get to school.  Care has been taken to consult with local law enforcement, school PTSA and School Community Council representatives, and the District’s traffic safety committee in establishing school access routes.  Despite broad consultation and agreement from all participating parties, no one, including the Alpine School District, Oak Canyon Junior High, or local law enforcement can guarantee that the agreed upon access routes are or will ever be completely free from hazards.  

Parents are encouraged to review and then walk the access routes with their child/children, to address specific concerns they may have, and to instruct their child/children to obey the laws and rules pertaining to pedestrian safety.  If a parent feels their child/children should use an access route that IS NOT identified in this plan, it is their prerogative to instruct their child/children differently.

School Access Route Descriptions:

• Lindon/PG Residents:

• East of the school: Walk down the hill, using the 200 South Lindon sidewalk. Access the field entrance by flag poles, and use the sidewalk to the school.
• North of the school: Walk toward the school, access the Lindon Heritage Trail on Center Street in Lindon. Go to the 725 East Center Street crosswalk, and proceed to the school.
• West of the school: Use the 200 South Lindon sidewalk, heading to the 725 East 200 South Lindon crosswalk structure, then proceed to the school on the 725 East sidewalk.

• Orem Residents:

• East of the school: Walk down the hill, using the 2000 North Orem sidewalk. Use the crosswalk at 2000 North Main Street, access the field entrance by flag poles, and use the sidewalk to the school.
• South of the school: Walk toward the school, using the 725 East 200 South Lindon crosswalk structure, and then proceed to the school on the 725 East sidewalk.
• West of the school: Access the 2000 North Orem sidewalk to use the 725 East 200 S (Lindon) crosswalk structure, and proceed to the school on the 725 East sidewalk.
