UPCOMING EVENTS

Rising 6th Grade Tours

Our tours for rising 6th graders scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, have been cancelled. We will create videos to share with 5th-grade teachers so students can participate in a “virtual tour” of middle school. Students will also have an opportunity to submit questions so we can help them feel prepared. Because of this change, our fall Open House will include more detailed sessions for both parents and students.

Junior Beta Club Induction

The Junior Beta Club Induction Ceremony will be held in the Shady Grove Elementary gym on Monday, May 18 at 5:00 p.m. Please use the gym entrance near the playground area. We will utilize our OpenGate system, and all bags must be clear bags.

Chorus Concert

Please note that the Spring Chorus Concert will now be held in the Shady Grove Elementary Gym on Tuesday, May 19th, at 6:00 p.m.  All concerts will utilize our OpenGate system, and all bags must be clear bags.

Winter/Spring Sports Recognition Night

Our combined Winter and Spring Sports Recognition Night will be held on Wednesday, May 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Shady Grove Elementary gym. Please use the gym entrance near the playground area. We will utilize our OpenGate system, and all bags must be clear bags.

8th Grade Promotion and Awards Ceremony

Our 8th‑grade Promotion and Awards Ceremony will now be held at Calvary West at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 1. We are incredibly grateful to the community members who are able to host us and help ensure this special night is meaningful for our 8th‑grade students and their families. We will utilize our OpenGate system, and all bags must be clear bags.

To accommodate the large number of guests attending, we did need to adjust the date and time in order to secure a location that could comfortably host everyone. Calvary West is located at 136 Medical Dr, Bermuda Run, NC 27006.

6th and 7th Grade Awards

• Date: Thursday, June 4
• Times: 7th Grade at 8:15 am and 6th Grade at 10:30 am
• Location: Football Field/Bleachers (If there is rain, we will need to move the event inside)
• Guests: Parents of students receiving an award will be contacted directly. Guests are welcome to attend; however, we ask that seating in the athletic area not begin until 15 minutes before the event. Weather permitting, guests may want to bring umbrellas, a chair or cushion, and sunscreen.
• Parking: Parking details will be shared as we get closer to the event. A golf cart will be available to assist guests who need transportation to the football field.
• Rain Plan: Should there be inclement weather on June 4, we will need to move the event inside. Because both the gym and cafeteria will be closed, we will be unable to host guests if the event is moved indoors.

Field Day

• 7th Grade Field Day will take place on Friday, May 22, at approximately 1:00 p.m. Students will travel to the Davie County Community Park, where our Encore teachers will host a variety of events. A permission slip will be sent home.
• 8th Grade Field Day will take place on Wednesday, May 27, at approximately 1:00 p.m. Students will travel to the Davie County Community Park, where our Encore teachers will host events. A permission slip will be sent home.
• Due to the availability of the community park, 6th Grade Field Day will be held on campus on Tuesday, June 2, during students’ Encore times.

Yearbook Distribution & Signing Party

We are still finalizing our plans for yearbook distribution and our yearbook signing party. At this time, our plan is to host the event after EOGs on Friday, May 29. More details will be shared with families as soon as plans are confirmed.

CLASSES AND CAFETERIA

PE Classes

The gym is closed until further notice. On weather-permitting days, PE will go outside. If the weather is unfavorable outside, PE will stay in their assigned classroom. Students should dress appropriately and wear suitable shoes, as we will not be changing clothes.

Cafeteria

Our WEMS kitchen was not impacted by the fire or water damage. However, the seating area requires cleaning. All students will enter and exit the cafeteria from outside using a barrier tunnel that Servpro has set up for students/staff.

Students should pick up their breakfast and return to their hallways to eat. For lunch, students will collect their meals and return to their classrooms to eat.
