Given the number of increased positive COVID-19 cases as well as the recent ruling, CRCSD will reinstate a mask mandate for all staff, students, and visitors during compulsory education hours (school day) as well as our daycare environments. For educational activities beyond the school day, masks are strongly recommended. This will take effect Wednesday, September 15, 2021. As we have in the past, we will continue to assess new information as we progress.
YEARBOOK PICK UP FOR GRADUATED STUDENTS
Yearbooks are in! Thank you for bearing with us as we distributed yearbooks to our underclassmen last week. We are now ready for you to collect yearbooks for your student who graduated last year! Here is what you need to know:

SCHOLARSHIPS OF THE WEEK
The Digital Responsibility $1000 Scholarship is available to students in grades 9-12. Complete the application form including a 140-character message about texting while driving. The top ten finalists will be asked to write a 500-1,000 word essay about texting while driving. Deadline is Sept. 30th.
The Heisman High School Scholarship recognizes and rewards outstanding senior scholar-athletes who understand that the most important victories not only happen on the field, but in their schools and communities. These remarkable young leaders set an example and make a game-changing difference every day, paving the way to greatness for everyone around them. A male and female state winner will be awarded $1,000, national finalists receive $2000, and national winners receive $10,000 scholarships. Application closes October 19th. VFW Voice of Democracy is an audio-essay program that provides students in grades 9-12 with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. The 2021-22 theme is: America: Where Do We Go From Here? State winners receive an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. and the chance to compete for $154,000 in scholarships - with the first place winner receiving a $30,000 scholarship. KIRKWOOD COLLEGE FAIR
The Kirkwood College Fair will be held on Wednesday, September 15 from 9:30-11:30 AM on Kirkwood’s Main Campus in the Michael J Gould Recreation Center.
High school students are invited to attend and visit with 70+ colleges/universities and military organizations! Parents are encouraged to attend also! Due to the timing of the event notification, transportation will not be provided.
Students attending the College Fair should go to the registration page at www.StriveFair.com and fill out a
quick form (in advance or at the door). After signing up, a barcode will be sent
to them via text message and email. This will be used when visiting the various
booths at the college fair.
Attention sophomores, juniors, and seniors!! The job shadow application portal through Kirkwood's Workplace Learning Connection is now open and accepting applications for fall and winter job shadows. Are you interested in playing chess or even learning how to play? Have you ever thought chess was boring? Well... it's far from it! Learn how to strategize while making friends! If any of these sound cool to you, Kennedy Chess Club invites you to join us! Whether it be competitively or casually, you will most certainly have a blast. You are not required to know how to play chess prior to joining. Unfortunately we only have a limited amount of chess mats provided, so we encourage you to bring your own if you'd like! Come on down for our first weekly meeting in room 128 (across from the main office/next to the bulletin boards) on Wednesday September 15th after school 3-4pm. We hope to see you there!
All students interested in serving on their Class Council, including serving as President of your class, must register with Mr. Benedict in room 164 by Friday, September 17 at 1:30 PM. All Candidates will need to be available to film their 30 second speech on Tuesday, September 21 during 7th hour. Elections will take place on Friday, September 24th online. All ballots and videos will be emailed to students that morning and will close at 1:30 PM that day.
If you are interested in participating in our homecoming parade on September 22nd 5:30 - 6:30 you need to pick up a form from Mr. Benedict in room 164.
Forms must be returned by Monday the 20th at 3pm if you wish to participate.
The Homecoming Dance will take place on September 24th.
Due to the high transmission of COVID in Linn County, we will be holding this event outdoors.
The time of the dance will be 6:30 - 10:00 PM and it will take place on the cafeteria patio.
Students may bring one guest to this event. Outside guests must be in high school (no middle school students) but under 21 years of age. All guests must be registered for verification by 1:30 PM on Friday the 17th of September (no exceptions) via this form: https://forms.gle/BDCkxJz2gnHE5cHn9
Tickets will go on sale during lunch and before school starting today September 14th- In the mornings go to Mr. Benedict’s room 164 and in the Cafeteria during your lunch hours.. Tickets are $10.00 per person. NO tickets will be sold at the door.
Important Rules to Remember
1. All attendees must present student IDs prior to entering the dance. No exceptions.
2. No bags or sacks are allowed. All purses are subject to search.
3. Students are responsible for the behavior of their outside guests.
4. Dancing must be appropriate. Inappropriate dance will be grounds for removal.
5. All school rules apply. See Page 35 of the Student/Parent Handbook for complete rules description.

KENNEDY DANCE FUNDRAISER
Hey Cougars, here’s a great way to get great food and help raise money for the Kennedy Dance Team. All you have to do is eat at Vito’s on 42nd Street on Monday, September 20th - dine in or carry out - and a percentage of your bill will go back to support our dance team. It doesn’t get much easier than that! See you at Vito's on Monday!
KENNEDY HYGIENE DRIVE
Kennedy is having a Hygiene drive from now until September 21. Some items needed are: Toothpaste/toothbrush, deodorant, combs/ brushes and socks. Please place your donations in the containers located in the front foyer. Items donated will be distributed by Cougar Corner Pantry, Bridge Under the Bridge, and Together We Achieve. Thank you for any help that you can provide!!!
BLACK STUDENT UNION
Black Student Union will be meeting after school on Thursdays in room 125. If you can not make that day there are always opportunities for you to help out with Fundraisers that occur throughout the year.

Football Friday Reminders
We believe in a safe, supportive, collaborative environment in all CRCSD spaces. We are proud to embrace that belief at Kingston Stadium. To ensure this environment, the following expectations have been adopted for students attending football games:
Be Respectful, Be Safe, Be Responsible
• Middle School and younger students must be accompanied by a paying adult
• High School students must present an ID to enter
• Students may not enter with backpacks and/or cinch sacks
• Students must stay on their assigned side of the stadium
• Students must leave the grounds immediately after the game ends. Call your ride at the start of the 4th quarter.
Men's Tennis: Any males, grades 9-12, who were NOT on the spring men's tennis team last year and are interested in participating in the spring of 2022 should contact Coach Bova, either directly or via email, to be put on the team's information distribution list. Potential players will be notified of any important information that develops prior to the beginning of the official season in March, 2022.
ALL girls 9th-12th grade interested in going out for Basketball this season, there will be an Open Gym this Thursday September 16th from 7 to 8:30pm in the Main Gym. Contact Coach Courtney for any questions you may have!
