Iowa History 101 RV on display

Cathy Hansen

Students from 5th through 8th grade will experience History on the Move: Iowa History 101.  They will explore the mobile museum in groups, learning about Iowa basics and Iowans at home, work and play.

On Monday, September 10 from 5-7 p.m., the public is invited to tour the mobile museum, a 300-square-foot exhibition called “Iowa History 101”.  The museum is filled with artifacts from the State Historical Society’s collection.

If you can’t visit the State Historical Museum in Des Moines, why not let it come to you?

That’s the idea behind “Iowa History 101,” a new multimedia and artifact-based traveling exhibit housed in a Winnebago RV.  A few key artifacts that will be included in the exhibit, will include the 1917 prototype of Iowa’s state flag designed by Dixie Cornell Gebhardt of Knoxville and a 1928 record of the song “Sugar” by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra featuring Davenport’s Leon “Bix” Beiderbecke.
