The Body

Diabetes also called Diabetes Mellitus.

When the blood sugar levels get too high in your body it can damage your organs in your body like your kidney and heart; this can lead to blindness and if your blood sugar goes too high it can even cause amputation to extremes such as your toes. High blood sugar levels can cause in the body not getting enough insulin.

What is Insulin

Insulin is a hormone that is produced by the organ called the pancreas.Insulin takes the sugar that is in our blood- which is also called glucose and helps it get into our cells. Once the glucose is in the cells, the cells use that for energy which powers our body.

Why is Insulin important

When there is not enough inulin in our blood two things happen; First, the glucose in our blood increases which isn’t good for us. As our body continues to eat food the carbohydrates (which is very good for our body and is used for giving us strength and stamina) are turned into glucose and absorbed by the blood stream which gives the body energy. If there is no insulin, the cells will not need to absorb the glucose. Second of all the cells will be starved of energy.

Types and Causes

What are the Symptoms

Diabetes can cause extreme thirst, weight loss and bad breath.

Diabetes Type 1

Type 1 diabetes is caused when your body decides to attack the pancreas and destroy the cells that make the insulin. Doctors are not sure what causes the immune system to do this, but once the cells are destroyed the pancreas could no longer produce insulin causing diabetes called Juvenile Diabetes.

Diabetes Type 2

Type 2 of diabetes is caused when the pancreas doesn’t produce enough of the insulin or the insulin isn’t working right.
