2018 - 2019
The Tennessee Youth Symphony envisions young people achieving their fullest potential educationally, musically and socially while enriching their lives and positively influencing their families and communities. We seek to preserve musical tradition while embracing the present and shaping the future.
The Tennessee Youth Symphony seeks to encourage musical excellence by providing superior musical training and a variety of performance opportunities for young musicians in Williamson County and surrounding areas. We believe that playing music together supports community among diversity enriching the lives of young people while encouraging a lifelong love of the arts.
The Tennessee Youth Symphony and Prelude Strings have a reputation of providing quality musical opportunities and instruction to its participants and the community. It is imperative that members of the orchestras, as well as their families, are well informed in regards to the policies and procedures necessary to continue to provide this type of learning environment.
Students are permitted to miss up to 3 full rehearsals per semester. If a student is absent for more than 3 full rehearsals, he/she will not perform in the concert. If it is necessary for a student to miss a rehearsal, the student/parent should email their orchestra conductor PRIOR to the rehearsal. All absences should be sent to the conductors in writing.
Students are expected to arrive 10-15 minutes before the rehearsal in order to be unpacked and ready to play at the rehearsal start time.
Participants are expected to attend all scheduled performances. An unexcused absence from a concert will result in removal from the orchestra.
Conductors have final decisions in placement of students in groups, chair seating, part selection, etc. Student chairs may be adjusted for inadequate musical preparation, tardiness or unexcused absences.
The TYS/Prelude Strings has permission to use a student's name and likeness as needed, which includes (but is not limited to) the TYS website, Facebook fan page, marketing and promotional materials, photography, video recordings, sound recordings, podcasts, etc.
Tuition is $300.00 per student per year due by the time of audition or by the parent meeting for new students. Tuition for families with multiple students is $300 for the first student and $250 for each additional student. All accounts must be paid in full to participate in any TYS trip or ensemble.
The Tennessee Youth Symphony reserves the right to dismiss any student due to frequent absences, frequent tardiness, lack of interest or progress, behavioral problems and/or failure to abide by Orchestra Policies.
