Dear Snook ISD Families & Staff,
I hope this correspondence finds you all well, staying safe, and managing to enjoy what is left of the summer break. With August upon us and the ever-changing state of COVID-19, we know many are anxious about what the school year will look like at Snook ISD for 2020-2021. We would love to open the doors to the school and see all our students return.
Even so, our first priority here at Snook ISD is for the safety and well-being of our students and our staff. This includes mental, emotional and physical safety. We understand that having a sense of security is needed before learning can occur. So we are diligently working to establish school protocols to keep our students and staff safe while offering the best quality instruction both on campus and at home.
In the context of COVID-19, learning will look different for us throughout the 2020-2021 school year. We want to assure our students and families that the end goal for this school year is to work together and support each other as we all focus on the learning and development of our exceptional students.
Here is a brief snapshot of our timeline as the first day of school approaches:
July 30 Snook ISD will share 2020-2021 Snook ISD Instructional Plan
July 30 Snook ISD will share a Parental Commitment Form to select which instructional model (on-campus or at-home) our families prefer for each student.
August 7 Families will be required to submit their Parental Commitment Form by the deadline of Friday, August 7, 2020. All students enrolled without a parental commitment form will be enrolled in on-campus instruction. There will be an open transition window through September 4 for students to decide whether on-campus learning or at-home learning is best. Once a student chooses at-home learning, they must remain online for the REMAINDER of the 6-weeks grading period before they are able to change their learning environment.
August 5 - 18 Snook ISD teachers will be developing their skills in Google Classroom which will be used for at-home learning
All expectations for both on-campus learning and at-home learning can be found below as well as on our website and notifications of all postings will be shared through district Remind, social media, email, and our messenger system. Now more than ever, it is critical to have reliable contact information for families and students. Parents and guardians are encouraged to thoroughly review both plans below before deciding whether or not their child will return to on-campus.
Instructional Delivery Models
Snook ISD will provide two instructional delivery models:
- On-Campus Learning (Traditional Classroom Experience)
- At-Home Learning (Digital Learning Experience)
Families will be required to submit their Parental Commitment Form by the deadline of Friday, August 7, 2020.
On-Campus Learning
- Available for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12
- Students will attend school on a regular instructional schedule and will engage in direct, face-to-face learning on campus all day, every day
- Students will follow their class schedules by transitioning to different classrooms for course instruction
- The expectations for coursework and guidelines for grading for on-campus learning and at-home learning will be the same.
- Implementation of preventive safety measures will be followed daily to ensure the well-being of students
- In the event that on-campus learners are required to quarantine, the education of these students will transition to at-home learning for the duration of the quarantine period and may return to on-campus learning after meeting return criteria.
At-Home Learning
- Available for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12
- Students will remain at home and are required to be engaged in learning activities solely on Google Classroom; students who do not demonstrate engagement on a given day will be marked absent.
- Engagement expectations are defined by each campus to ensure vertically aligned instruction.
- Daily student engagement in the learning activities will be required.
- Students will have to demonstrate engagement ALL 5 days each week by completing projects, answering questions, submitting assignments, or submitting pictures of assignments and tasks
- A care-giver will need to be available to support younger students in navigating the daily schedule and providing assistance with the learning as needed
- The expectations for coursework and guidelines for grading for on-campus learning and at-home learning will be the same.
- All school work is expected to be turned in by the specified due date and only through Google Classroom (NO PAPER PACKETS)
- Students and parents are also encouraged to participate and contact the teacher by email. For any additional support or questions parents may call the school at 979.272.8307.
- Some electives may only be available in an on-campus learning format and at-home learners would not be able to enroll in these courses due to equipment and facility resources necessary for instruction. Those students who are required to quarantine may have alternative assignments until they are able to return. Those courses include:
- Athletics

- Students will NOT be able to participate in extracurricular activities unless they are enrolled in the corresponding course on campus
- Once a student chooses at-home learning, they must remain online for the REMAINDER of the 6-weeks grading period before they are able to change their learning environment.
- Accommodations and support services will be provided to all remote learners
- At-home learners must have a reliable internet connection (Snook ISD will provide internet hotspots upon request based on availability)

Online Learning Management System
- Snook ISD uses Google Classroom to coordinate online learning. Students will submit work primarily through Google Classroom. Each grade level/subject area will have daily tasks and classwork for at-home learners that mirrors the work expected of on-campus learners.
Student Engagement Process & Attendance
Following TEA guidance three student engagement markers will be used for attendance tracking :
1. Daily Progress through Google Classroom collaboration
2. Daily Progress through student/teacher interaction
3. Google Classroom Assignment Turn-ins
Teachers will determine at-home learner daily attendance based on the completion of these student engagement tasks.
- Daily attendance for at-home learners will be accounted for at 10:00AM the following day
- Students not completing any student engagement activities for the previous day will be marked absent
- Campus leadership will monitor student engagement each day and for each subject. If there is no documentation of student engagement, Snook ISD will proceed to the following:
- The campus will send a message by email, Remind and/or automatic voice call message to families based on the contact information provided.
- Each week, teachers of each subject will be expected to contact at-home learners to determine academic support needed.
- At-home learners who are consistently absent due to lack of engagement are subject to the same consequences as on-campus learners.
