General Function:

Under the direction of the school principal the educator is responsible for the education of assigned students and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish effective rapport with pupils; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and the knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education and in accordance with each pupil’s ability. Professional relations will be developed and maintained with other staff and parents.

Summary and Overall Objective:

• The educator is responsible for the education of assigned students

Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides learning experiences and teaches the course of study prescribed by the District approved curriculum utilizing the standards adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities.
• Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual pupil needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive pupil learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction.
• Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
• Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
• Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on the school grounds.
• Devise and utilize techniques, which accurately measure pupil progress.
• Evaluate pupil’s academic and personal growth, keeping appropriate records, and preparing progress reports.
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means discussing academic and personal progress; interpret school programs.
• Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas.
• Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
• Conform to District policies including attendance, absences and evaluations. Attendance must be adequate to acceptably perform listed job functions.
• Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and/or interest centers.
• Maintain professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and through self selected professional growth activities.
• Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out of classroom activities.
• Participate in faculty meetings, committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
• Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
• Administer group standardized test in accordance with district testing program.
• Select and requisition books and instructional materials; maintain required inventory records.
• Cooperates with the custodian(s) for the general housekeeping needs in the area(s) for which the teacher is assigned.

During times of state or district emergency, all employees may be required to perform additional duties that are not required on a normal basis in support of educational and operational priorities. e.g. Performs general cleaning and sanitizing of work areas, provides remote assistance to students and staff, and any other reasonable duty as needed.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Science Educator

• Teaches knowledge and skills in science which may include earth, biological, chemistry, physics, or integrated sciences.
• Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional aides stressing “discovery, phenomen and laboratory learning methods.
• Plans and demonstrates a balanced science instructional program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organizes laboratory activities and procedures for optimum learning.
• Instructs students in proper care and use of materials and organizes storage areas and controls use of materials to prevent injury, loss or abuse.

Visual and Performing Arts Educator

• Plans, rehearses, and directs pupils in musical theater or arts programs for school and community.
• Plans daily class time to achieve a balanced program of study of concepts, individual and group performance, development of standards of critical analysis, and development of effective listening skills.

College and Career, CTE, Digital Literacy Educator:

• Demonstrates technological/industrial materials, equipment, tools and processes, using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids.
• Instructs pupils in use of eye protection and safety guards, and in the use, care, and safe operation of tools and equipment as required.
• Keeps informed of technology/industrial community’s job entry requirements and where appropriate instructs pupils in the rudiments of getting and retaining these jobs.
• Instructs pupils in Business Office Solutions, Business Communications, and Business Education
• Advises Clubs as needed and requested

Physical Education and Health Educator

• Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
• Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils.

Foreign Languages Educator

• Must be fluent in foreign language and English.
• Teaches assigned subjects exclusively using the foreign language for the purpose of creating fluency in foreign language while teaching basic subjects in an immersion setting.
• Immerses students in the foreign language, literature, and culture while teaching assigned core subjects for the purpose of maximizing the language learning experience.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree or greater in Secondary Education and/or related field from four-year college or university.

Preferred Education and Job Related Experience:

Experience working in a K-12 environment.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

Active Utah Professional Education Teaching License with proper endorsements authorizing areas assigned. ESL Endorsement would be beneficial.
