For The Speaker:

You recently moved into a house with the listener. Whether your relationship with them is platonic or romantic, you care about them a lot and the two of you share all your secrets with each other. One of the listener’s secrets is that they age regress when under stress. You’ve never seen yourself as a very reliable or competent person. But if it’s for them, you’ll try your best. Today is Thanksgiving, and the listener unexpectedly regressed in the morning. That left you to cook all the food and prepare your two person feast. After finally finishing all that hard work with surprisingly few mistakes, you’re going to bring the listener in from outside to eat.

Listener’s Summary:

You’ve recently moved into a house with someone you care a lot about. The two of you share all your secrets with each other, and this includes the secret that you age regress when you’re stressed. [They/He/She] [don’t/doesn’t] think [they’re/he’s/she’s] a very reliable person, but you know that isn’t the case. And you’re happy that [they/he/she] still [try/tries] for you despite [their/his/her] doubts. Today is Thanksgiving, and you unexpectedly regressed in the morning. This left your caregiver to make the meal while you played with a football outside. Hopefully the food will be ready soon, because you’re starving!

Script:

*outdoor ambience with light wind*

*bouncing football*

*bouncing football*

*door opening* Kid- *bouncing football* (surprised) Woah! Sheesh, that was close. Be careful where you’re aiming those throws, kiddo.

Don’t worry! I’m not upset. I’m honestly more surprised that it didn’t hit me in the face, what with my luck. *awkward chuckle* Anyway, I came out here to let you know food is ready!

Mhm! Are you hungry? ‘Cuz I’m starving! *running through leaves* Woah there! *running stops* Don’t leave your plushie outside! I’m sure they wanna eat, too. *running through leaves*

*running on flooring* Ah! *running stops* We use our walking feet inside, remember? *walking* Thank you, sweetie. *door closing* *outdoor ambience stops* *second set of footsteps starts*

*walking stops* What do you think? Looks good, huh?

I’m glad you think so. I know I’m not exactly a great chef, but I did my best and followed all the recipes you use while you’re big. *ruffling hair* [simultaneously with ruffling] I know you like your home-cooked meals. *ruffling stops* Sit in your seat and I’ll plate everything up for you.

Of course. I’ll help your plushie get situated, too. *two people sitting down*

Ah-! C’mon, kiddo. You know the rules of Thanksgiving.

*fake sigh* I know, I know. (fake grumpy voice) It’s so hard to say what I’m thankful for! Meh!

(normal tone) *giggle* Man, being outside really wound you up, huh? (mumbling) Maybe I should’ve brought you in a bit sooner so you could calm down…

(out loud) Nothing, sweetie. I’ll start, ok? How about each of us say…five things we’re thankful for this year?

What do you mean that’s too many?

I know you’re hungry, but you’ll be able to eat sooner if we just start now.

*sigh* (mumbling) Yep. Definitely should’ve come inside earlier. (out loud) What if we do…three each? Is that more agreeable for your cranky tummy?

*chuckle* Ok, I’ll start. I’m thankful for…first of all, the fact that we can live together now. And not only that, but we get to live together in a place that’s nice and private. So you can do all your little stuff outside when you’re in the mood for it without having to worry about other people. I know you said that was a big concern when you first told me about this side of you. And I’m also thankful that the place we live in is so well taken care of. It’s nice that I don’t have to call in repairs every other week like at my last rental…

Hold on! That was only one thing. I still have two more to go.

*sigh* Yes, I’ll try to speed the next ones up. But you need to remember your patience, ok? Actually, why don’t we calm down a little? Let’s take a moment for our calming breaths.

Please? For me? *fake whimpering*

*small giggle* Thank you, sweetie. Take a deep breath in. *slow inhale* And out. *slow exhale* One more time. In. *slow inhale* And out. *slow exhale* There. How are we feeling now? A little calmer?

Good. Uhh…where were we?

Right! The second thing I’m thankful for…I’m thankful that I was actually able to cook all this food for us. But especially for you.

*chuckle* I know you’re usually the better chef around here, but I get that’s too big a task for you at this age. Isn’t it?

Yeah. I’m just glad nothing came out burnt or undercooked. It’s a Thanksgiving miracle.

Of course. The last thing I’m thankful for is you. You’re really special to me, and it makes me so happy that you trust me with this side of yourself. I love seeing you happy, and letting me take care of you helps me remember that I’m not as unreliable as I think I am. You’re the best, kiddo.

(excited) Of course you can have a hug! C’mere! *hug*

Alright. What are you thankful for this year?

Uh huh. And why is that?

Good job! What’s the next thing you’re thankful for?

That’s a good answer! And you’re thankful because…?

Well done, kiddo! Last one, then we can eat. What are you thankful for?

*extended pause*

Awww! That’s so sweet! And you even elaborated all by yourself! Can I give you another hug?

*hug* I’m thankful for you, too.

Ok. Now we can- [interrupted]

You’re right! Sorry. We forgot to listen to your plushie. What are they thankful for?

Why are they thankful for buttons, fabric, and stuffing?

Of course. ‘Cuz they’re a plushie. That makes sense. Well, are you ready to eat now?

Good! ‘Cuz I am too! What do you want on your first plate?

Uh huh…*clanking silverware*

Ok…

Gosh! That’s a lot, kiddo. Are you sure you can handle all this?

*chuckle* Look, sweetie. *silverware stops* Why don’t we start with this for now?

‘Cuz your plate’s about to spill over! Any more food and I think we’ll have a bigger mess than that time I dropped a sack of flour on the floor…

*chuckle* I was so worried about that happening today. But it didn’t! Lucky us, huh?

(confused) Hm? What’s wrong?

Yes, I put a little bit of corn on your plate. And?

But sweetie, you like corn flakes! It’s the same thing, just cooked different!

I know it’s a vegetable, but vegetables are good for you! They help you get strong enough to keep throwing that football around.

How about this? If you try some corn, I’ll let you have extra whipped cream with your pie.

Yes, it’s your favorite kind. You made it last night while you were big, remember? And you can have that extra whipped cream on it, but only if you try the corn. Deal?

Thank you, sweetie. I’m proud of you.

Yep! Just one little bite.

Ah-! Don’t talk with your mouth full, please. Chew and swallow. *snicker* But, I’m glad you liked it. I guess me being a bossy pants was a good thing this time, huh?

*chuckle* You dork. I love you, kiddo. *ruffling hair* Now it’s time for me to get my food. *clanking silverware*

(confused) Sweetie, what are you doing?

Oh. Well, it’s very nice that you want to share with your plushie. But be careful not to spill, alright? Otherwise we’ll have to give them a bath in the washing machine again.

*silverware stops* Mhm. And as proud as I am of this food, I’m even more tired from cooking all of it. I’d rather not do any more chores today if it can be helped.

Thank you, sweetie.

(with mouth full) Mmm! I’m not sure if it’s just me being hungry, but this tastes way better than my normal stuff.

*chuckle* *swallow* (mouth no longer full) You’re right, kiddo. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t talk with my mouth full.

*happy sigh* You’re always keeping me in check, aren’t you? I have to be the responsible one with you around. But I like it. It’s nice knowing you can rely on me.

I know this isn’t a big gathering with tons of people like we’re both used to, but I hope I was still able to make today special. You deserve the best, kiddo.

Awww! I love you too, sweetie. Happy Thanksgiving.
