Social Studies
Social studies instruction in Conroe ISD is based on the CISD Explores model. The mission of the model is to foster civic and cultural competence that equip students to become informed and engaged citizens in their communities. We promote the fundamental values and ideals of our democracy through the acquisition of disciplinary knowledge, informed and reasoned decision-making, the practice of respectful communication and discourse, intellectual processes, and problem-solving skills. Through the development of these skills, we prepare our diverse population of learners to navigate within a global community. The basis of the model is sound social studies instruction driven by the 43 elements from the New Art and Science of Teaching. The social studies team has identified six guiding principles intended to drive social studies instruction, build the capacity of teachers, and focus on quality first-time instruction for students. These six guiding principles of CISD Explores will drive professional learning opportunities offered during the 2023-2024 school year with the goal for all teachers to be equipped with instructional strategies and content knowledge to meet the needs of their individual students.
