Bartley Sailing Club

1st - 3rd November 2024

  1. Introduction
  1. The Brummy Boom 2024 will take place between the 1st and 3rd November 2024 at Bartley Sailing Club, 101 Genners Ln, Bartley Green, Birmingham B32 3NU
  2. The event is for three boat teams and will be sailed in Firefly type dinghies supplied by the Organising Authority. Each boat shall be sailed by two people.

  1. Organising Authority
  1. The organising authority is Birmingham University Sailing Club.

  1. Rules
  1. Races will be sailed under the current World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) including Appendix D.
  2. The event will be umpired in accordance with Rule D2.3 (a).
  3. In accordance with RRS 70.5(a) the right of appeal will be denied.

  1. Entries and Deposit
  1. Entries are invited from all teams representing BUSA Member Universities. Other teams may be accepted at the discretion of the Organising Authority.
  2. Entries should be made by filling in the entry form via the link below: https://forms.gle/9KJB4mZadmGethHh9 
  3. The entry fee will be £325 per team. Entries which are made and fully paid before Sunday 6th October 2024 will receive a £25 discount.
  4. For an entry to be valid, it must have been received (including payment) by no later than Friday 18th October 2023.
  5. Entries are limited to 18 teams and will be selected at the discretion of the organising authority.
  6. A reserve list will be used for those teams over the entry limit.
  7. Teams will forfeit their entry fee if an entry is withdrawn after Friday 18th October 2024 and the Organising Authority is unable to fill the place from the Reserve List.
  8. Each team will be liable for the full cost of damage to boats, equipment and property. A damage deposit form must be signed or a deposit for £300 will be required at registration and before a team may sail.  If the organising authority estimates that the total damage attributable to the team exceeds the deposit, the team will be required to pay up to the full amount of our insurance excess. A team may apply to the protest committee to determine their responsibility for any damage.
  1. Event Schedule
  1. Registration will take place between 1700 and 2100 on Friday 1st November 2024 at Country Girl, 1 Raddlebarn Rd, Selly Oak, Birmingham B29 6HJ
  2. All teams are required to attend the briefing at 0900 on Saturday 2nd November 2024 at Bartley Sailing Club. At this briefing an outline of the schedule of races will be given.
  3. The first warning signal will not be before 09l27

  1. Buoyancy and Clothing
  1. An adequate personal flotation device shall be worn at all times whilst afloat.
  2. Wet or dry suits are required.
  3. The organiser retains the right to refuse entry to any competitor who does not meet these requirements.

  1. Risk Statement
  1. Rule 3 of the Racing Rules of Sailing states: "The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone."
    Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the event, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that:
  1. They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event;
  2. They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew, their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore;
  3. They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions;
  4. Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate;
  5. The provision of a race management team, patrol boats and other officials and volunteers by the event organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities;
  6. The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can be practically provided in the circumstances.
  7. It is their responsibility to familiarise themselves with any risks specific to this venue or this event drawn to their attention in any rules and information produced for the venue or event and to attend any safety briefing held for the event.
  8. The sailing club will be taking photos on the day, all competitors give their permission for these photos to be used in their advertising and media.

  1. Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the organising authority

  1. Cancellation
  1. The organising authority reserves the right to cancel the event. The entry fee and any deposits will be refunded less any unavoidable costs.

  1. Rights to use Name and Likeness
  1. By participating in this event competitors automatically grant to the organising authority the right in perpetuity to make use and show at their discretion any photography, audio and video recordings and other reproductions of them made at the venue or on the water from the time of their arrival at the venue until their final departure, without compensation.

15. PRIVACY STATEMENT 15.1 The personal information you provide to the organising authority will be used to facilitate your participation in the event. If you have agreed to be bound by the Racing Rules of Sailing and the other rules that govern the event (the rules), the legal basis for processing that personal information is contract. If you are not bound by the rules, the legal basis for processing that personal information is legitimate interest. Your personal information will be stored and used in accordance with the organising authority’s privacy policy. When required by the rules, personal information may be shared with the RYA, your national authority and/or World Sailing. The results of the event and the outcome of any hearing or appeal may be published.
