Update from Head Teacher

Staffing Update

  • Learning Assistant starting on 6 January 2025 (Lindsay Mills)
  • Mrs Cran put through a new post authorisation for Support for Learning Teacher (est. to be in post February 2025).

Participatory Budgeting

  • Regarding the ringfencing of £1500 to support wider achievement.
  • Mrs Cran worked with the Pupil Council to get votes for preferred clubs. Highest scoring clubs were chess, arts and crafts, coding, board games, and football.
  • Discussed possibilities and agreed good idea to focus on 3 clubs.
  • Football clubs already plentiful and Mr Hutchinson has run these in the past, and Fr. Kevin has shown an interest in getting involved in football.
  • Mrs Cran will look into chess, coding and arts and crafts.

Garden

  • Mrs Cran and Belinda discussed garden plans. Will start with pumpkins.  Will assign a planter to each class who will have responsibility for preparing these, starting seeds etc.

Treasurer Update (Kristiana)

Asda cash pot raised £142.67

Easy Fundraising currently at £295.88 - £113.22 received to date.

Christmas Fayre feedback (Sophie)

  • Possibility of online raffle next year (e.g. https://www.peoplesfundraising.com)
  • Will assign the role of promotion of the Christmas Fayre and raffle next year.
  • Possibility of discount for Games Rooms entry for families with more than one child.
  • Hot chocolate was very popular and should continue to do this.
  • Suggestion of having the last Saturday of November as a set date for Christmas Fayre. Kristiana will speak to June to ensure no clash with Penicuik Christmas Street Fayre.
  • It would be useful to have someone over-seeing everything on the day who is not involved in any particular activities but can help with any issues.

PP Recruitment (Gillian)

  • Struggled with lack of volunteers at Christmas Fayre (café, halls, home-baking).
  • Parent Partnership asked if parents could send in suggestions for fund-raising or events that would not require a large number of helpers e.g. bingo, cinema night selling popcorn etc.

Email sacredheartparentpartnership@gmail.com with suggestions.

  • Mrs Belda may be able to ask Parish members.

5

Tesco Stronger Starts (Kristiana)

  • Mrs Cran thought a sheltered space outdoors could be useful, or soft furnishings for the library space.
  • Audio books maybe also be a good way to remove barriers.
  • Any other suggestions can be emailed to sacredheartparentpartnership@gmail.com

Web Development (Jemima)

7

St Davids RCHS (Maggie)

P7 pupils in Loretto RC Primary School in East Lothian no longer guaranteed a space in St Davids RC High School (Sacred Heart is in the St Davids catchment).

If other parents wanted to give support to Loretto to help them ensure they maintain their right to a Catholic education, they could write to their local elected members in Midlothian Council.

8

AOCB

  • Due to the refurbishment, Penicuik High school will not offer practical home economics classes for 2 years (only theory). There will also be a reduction in classrooms for CDT.
  • St Davids RC High School have appointed Catherine Jackson as Head Teacher (fixed term post).  Mrs Jackson was previously Deputy HT.
  • Sophie will share details of a possible fund-raising stream through children’s names labels. Mrs Cran said could include in P1 welcome pack.

Next meeting: Thursday 9 January. The meeting will focus on the Tesco Stronger Start application and the Easter Picnic Event planning. Online/In person TBC
