Sept. 17, 2018

Dear Families,

Happy Monday!  I hope that everyone had a great weekend!  Last week we successfully completed our first full week of school with lots of positive student and staff energy

We are very fortunate to have forged a relationship with Rippleffect.  Our 6th grade teams spent a day focused on building community in Deering Oaks park.  In October our 8th grade teams will have a similar opportunity.

We are entering into the time of expedition kickoffs.  This week Sebago 7 is kicking off their fall expedition, Going Batty!  Throughout this expedition, in partnership with Maine Audubon and Deering Oaks Park, students will be looking at what makes a habitat suitable for living things, the importance of native species, and how we can help bats. At the Kick Off, they will be introduced to the Center for Wildlife’s two native bats.

Please complete this family participation survey to share ways you can be involved at King. This includes volunteering at King’s Day of Service on Saturday, October 27 from 9-12.  We are looking to add some large plants to the hallways and stairwells at school.  If you have a plant you could donate, or have a connection with a nursery or landscaping company that might be able to make a donation, please contact Nancy Berrang, Community Coordinator at berran@portlandschools.org

We are aware that many families were unable to attend Open House because of the heat and other obligations.  Please check the website for student and family handbooks and staff contact information.  Also, our team teachers meet 2-3 times per week during the school day.  If you would like to meet with all teachers please contact your child’s Crew teacher or counselor to coordinate a time.
