Volunteer Position Description:

To offer support services to sexually abused survivors, raise awareness in the community, and to receive chats from the 24-hour IAV chat for crisis intervention, information, and referrals.

• IAV Volunteers may also have opportunities to assist in educating the public about sexual assault issues such as molestation, human trafficking, risk reduction, and sexual harassment.

• Basic and ongoing training to improve communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of people in diverse crisis situations.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Commit to cover five hours of chat shifts per month as a volunteer.  

• Respond to IAV chats.

• Create a summary report of any and all activity to IAV, no later than 24 hours from shift.

• If unable to cover chat scheduled shift, find a replacement Volunteer.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Must attend IAV Volunteer training course.

• Must be reliable, flexible, and able to maintain confidentiality.

• Must be able to work effectively with survivors, police, and medical personnel.

• Must be able to work within the boundaries of IAV’s regulations and procedures.

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Must be one year post trauma.

 

 

Time Commitment:

Upon Completion of Training

• 60 hours per year for community outreach activities –equivalent to five hours a month

• 60 hours per year for at-home chat support-equivalent to five hours a month

• On-Call Chat shifts vary from as little as 4 hours per day on Monday through Friday, to 12 hours every evening. Weekends and holidays are 12 – 24 hour shifts.

Training:

• Eight hours of Volunteer Training provided by IAV.

Location and transportation:

• Must be able to drive and provide own transportation in order to be prompt to events and meetings.

*Volunteer applicants will be required to interview with the volunteer coordinator prior to completing training and beginning as an IAV volunteer. Applicants will also be responsible for paying a $10 application fee. A SLED background check will be performed for all applicants.
