Norkirk Neighborhood Board Meeting Minutes
Thursday, September 16, 2021, 4:00 p.m.
Via Zoom
Present: Jane Ainbinder, Huan Zou, Mary Jessen, Ramola Lewis, Chris Stone. Absent: Janet Pruitt.
Chris Stone took care of our state business license through the end of the year.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
We did not move forward with the picnic this year due to COVID.
We discussed potential community engagement ideas such as a ‘meet your neighbor for coffee and doughnuts’ event on a weekend morning. It could be a ‘grab and go’ type of thing or a spend-some-time-chatting event. After discussion we voted to do this. Jane and Huan will discuss further and let us know more.
Sign project. Jane spoke with Loita Hawkinson from the Kirkland Heritage Society about a neighborhood project. We will table this for now.
Jane and Huan sent out the Greenway survey for what people value most in their biking routes.
Huan updated us on the two rounds of Lego scavenger hunts this summer. We received some very good feedback. Peter Kirk Elementary is now going to do their own Lego scavenger hunt.
NEW BUSINESS
Neal Black is booked for the October 6 Norkirk Neighborhood meeting. Josh Pantzke from Public Works will also speak about the recent water main break. David Wolbrecht is available to talk about the Neighborhood Safety Plan. We may invite Brandon Leyritz with PSE to our December meeting about energy saving ideas for the winter.
Neighborhood Safety Program this year: Jane will continue to handle this.
Updates from KAN:
There will be a candidate forum on September 30.
A group of people from KAN has formed a group to follow the 85th Station Area plan.
City Hall for All event will be held virtually September 18.
Some of the Kirkland signs (neighborhood, park) will be replaced.
We discussed the way we vote for board members. Should we look at the bylaws and make positions two-year terms? We will discuss and vote on this at our next Board meeting.
Our meeting ended at 5:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Jessen
Secretary
