I trained in Contemporary Dance at De Montfort University in Leicester before beginning my teaching career at Sudbury in Suffolk where I have been Head of Dance/ Second in Faculty for the past eight years. In that time I have taught A Level and BTEC Level 2/3 Dance courses as well as introducing a Key Stage 3 curriculum. Three years ago we introduced the BTEC Extended Diploma in Dance which is a full time training course for 6th Form students worth 3 A Levels where they train in Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, Tap. This has been very successful and has seen students go on to some of the top conservatories in the country; Rambert, London Studio Centre, Bird, Laban… plus many more. For the past 3 years I have also been leading on an initiative with DanceEast’s Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) known as the Associate Schools programme. This recognises the high quality provision we offer students and has enabled us to support other schools in recognising talent early on and aiding them in accessing high quality training. Engaging boys has been a big part of this work. I have managed the outreach for Performing Arts in our Academy for the past 6 years where I have worked with students from Reception to Year 6 for various projects and topics. This work has led to community Dance festivals, bringing together the dance work of local primaries in a showcase to parents. I am a qualified Arts Award Advisor and have facilitated students through Bronze and Silver levels as well as supporting our Academy to achieve Arts Mark Gold. I have also mentored several trainees and NQT’s over the years and been a Specialist Leader in Education (SLE) for Dance with the Kesgrave and Farlingaye teaching alliance. My work focuses on the principals of participating, collaborating, creating and achieving.
