Middle School Schedule: Week of April 13, 2020

Reading and Writing

Reminders:

Focus of the week:

  • We will read and summarize Act 1, scenes 1 and 2 of The Diary of Anne Frank
  • We will discuss the setting and its importance to events occurring in these two scenes

Weekly Agenda:

  1. Watch teacher introduction video and attend google meet at assigned time with questions
  2. Open google doc with guiding questions and activities. Use this doc as your “roadmap” for your reading
  3. Read scenes 1 and 2 of The Diary of Anne Frank, stopping to answer guided reading questions as prompted in the google doc (Anne Frank text is available in PDF format in google classroom)
  4. Complete sentence completion activity for vocabulary words. You will have a quiz on these words next week, so spend some time studying them this week.
  5. Watch the video, A Day in the Secret Annex. Compare and contrast the daily routine of the families in hiding to your own routines. Complete this writing in the guided reading doc.
  6. Pandemic journal prompt: write about the “setting” of your time at home. What are the different spaces available to you? For example, are there certain places in your house used for different things than they used to? Where are  you doing your school work right now? Are you able to get outside much? How has it been spending so much time in the same place

Mrs. Dunlea has included an audio version of Anne Frank, Act 1 in her google classroom.

Mrs. Dunlea’s group can get help through google meet every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00-11:00am.  Mrs. Mulvehill will meet with her groups at the same times and by appointment.

Feedback Plan: Feedback on guided reading provided throughout the week as work is submitted. Answers to vocabulary sentences posted Friday.

Mathematics

Focus of the week:  

We will be exploring and describing relationships between two variables that are nonlinear.

Weekly Agenda:   All documents and resources are on Google Classroom

*Please sign up for the Google Meet time that works best for you.

  1. Review feedback I provided on last week's assignments.  
  2. Complete and Submit the "April 6-9 Check In"  based on last week's assignments.
  3. This week we will start exploring relationships that are not linear.  
  4. Complete and submit  “Warm-Up King’s Chessboard”.  The Warm-Up, Activity, and Discussion Questions are in one document.  The "activity" this week is a hands-on activity.  You will need to have a piece of string (or a long strip of paper), a ruler, scissors, and paper (graph paper or print 1 page of document provided).
  5. Remember to ask questions while you are working either in private comments on your document or emailing me.

*Please remember to submit documents when you are finished.

ALGEBRA:  We will be writing exponential equations to solve real world problems.  See our google classroom for specific instructions.

Additional Supports:  

*Wednesday, 4/15 at 10:00am Mrs. Dunlea will hold a guided math lesson to complete this week’s hands on activity. Bring your supplies and math assignment and we will do it together.

*Mrs. Dunlea’s students will receive an invitation to her google classroom. In there you will find specific Math supports that pertain to this week. Mrs. Dunlea’s group can get help through google meet every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00-11:00am. Mrs. Mulvehill will meet with her groups at the same times and by appointment.

Focus of the week: Students will describe important observations Darwin made on his voyage which lead to the theories of adaptation through natural selection of a species

Focus of the week: To understand how the Triangular Trade led to the slave trade and the hardships that Africans endured during the Middle Passage. 

Weekly Agenda:
Log into Google Classroom and follow the instructions in the post. All work instructions will be within a single document in Classroom.

  1. View Mr. DiBiasio’s introduction video to understand the focus of the week (link in google classroom document)
  2. Complete the document and view the video to learn what the triangular trade was and how it worked. (link in google classroom document)
  3. Read and analyze 5 sources to determine how people experienced the Middle Passage. You will be working to determine which document was the most reliable.

Reminders:

Focus of the week: Stevenson and Medeiros: All grades have a three tiered OPTION for a project this week.  Choose one but feel free to do more if you want more art time!

 Option 1) Looking Back: revisit a project from your time at WMS that you enjoyed or was a challenge for you and try to do it again. (can be different subject matter)

Option 2) Looking Around: a)create a piece of artwork, any medium (performance tiktok, painting, sculpture, fabric, ect.) that captures what is going on in the world right now. OR

   b) With permission, go outside with your journals to create observational drawings of natural things in the environment around you.

Option 3) Looking ahead: Reference the document to design a poster for a National Park you would like to travel to some day. Remember your compositional strategies! See attachment in your Google classroom.

Weekly Agenda: Log on to either Ms. Stevenson or Mrs. Medeiros’s google classrooms for the assignment(s).  Watch instructional video demos anytime at Ms. Stevenson’s website. Ms. Stevenson’s students can join for informational/community/peer feedback through Google Meet Monday at 9.

Focus of the week: Musical Analysis

Weekly Agenda:

This week, we’re going to be comparing and contrasting different styles of music. There will be two songs and three versions of the same song: the original, a remix and the same song performed as a different genre. You’ll listen to each version, then fill out questions in a Google Form that ask you about your thoughts. When you give your opinion, try to think about the “Why?” If you like the song WHY do you like it. If you don’t like it, WHY don’t you like it. What about the song is it that helps you form your opinion?
