Cooking in Spanish

This session is taught by our Spanish teacher Ms. Carolina.  Ms. Carolina comes from Valencia and is a native Spanish speaker. In this after school club, students will cook in a manner of cultural exchange and enrichment.  Using Spanish to communicate, Ms. Carolina will strive to promote healthy eating habits and expose the students to recipes from around the world.  In addition, students will have the opportunity to use their creativity and ingenuity to create their own recipes as masterchefs.

Coding

This session is taught by our Head of School, Ms. Silvia.  Working with both computers and ipads, students will be exposed to the world of technology programming.  Understanding of programming and ICT skills are increasingly important in the modern world.  Students will learn skills such as: building a website, creating an app or a game and explore technology in an informal, creative and social environment.

Art

Art club is taught by our Grade 5,6 teacher, Ms. Clemency. During this session, the students will have the opportunity to express themselves creatively in a fun and engaging way. This club offers the use of different art and craft materials through the exploration of different art practices such as; drawing, painting and ceramics. The students will work on special art club projects both independently and collaboratively, producing pieces of artwork which interest them. At the end of the seven weeks, the students will hold a mini art exhibition, exhibiting their pieces of artwork.

Yoga

This session is taught by Rebecca Warner, a registered children's yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance UK and CORU registered dietitian.  Rebecca has her Masters in Drama and Theatre from NUI Galway and is the co-artistic director of RAK Dance Theatre.  These yoga sessions are full of fun, designed to stimulate the imagination, maintain natural flexibility, improve strength and introduce the concept of relaxation. Classes involve physical yoga practice through creative storytelling, lots of games, singing, breathing exercises and relaxation. The classes benefits include: improved balance and flexibility, enhanced physical strength and stamina, enhanced immune system, improved breathing and lung capacity, reduced stress levels, improved focus and concentration, increased body awareness and positive body image and improved sleep.

Swimming

This session is taught at the Mespil Swimming Pool located a short distance from ISD on Sussex Road, along the canal.  Parents/guardian collect children from the swimming pool directly.  All swimmers are provided transport to the pool via the ISD school bus and are required to bring a towel, swimsuit, swimming shoes, a swimming hat and goggles to the pool.  Students are taught by a qualified swimming instructor who instructs from the pool’s edge.  This is why it is essential that students who sign up for this session are required to be comfortable in the water and able to swim without floatation devices.  The teacher works on a variety of swimming skills and techniques such as: breath control, floating, kicking, a variety of strokes, diving and  swimming distance.  The teacher differentiates the swimmers into groups to teach to their individual needs.

Drama

This session is taught by Adrienne Lee.  Adrienne runs her own children’s drama school, has worked as a Speech & Drama teacher and workshop facilitator for over a decade and also works frequently with a variety of youth theatres in Dublin.  Adrienne has a Master’s Degree in Drama & Performance from University College Dublin, a Diploma in Drama, Arts and Theatre Studies, a Diploma in teaching and holds both a Special Needs Assistant Certificate and a Child Development and Play Certificate. Drama sessions focus on students enhancing their core skills and self-development through creative play.  Adrienne exposes students to a variety of drama and theatre games/exercises to help students develop a variety of skills such as: confidence to speak in public, body language, improvisation, storytelling, role-play, mime and movement, poetry, vocal and speech exercises.  You can learn more about Adrienne here: http://playact.ie/about-me/.

Piano

These sessions are taught by Aoife Mulholland.  Aoife is a very accomplished musician, dancer, singer and actor.  She holds a Masters of Arts from the Central School of Speech and Drama and a Bachelor's Degree in Music.  She has starred as the main act in a variety of London West End shows such as Legally Blonde and The Sound of Music.  Aoife works with students in half hour individual sessions (3:00-3:30, 3:30-4:00, 4:00-4:30, 4:30-5:00) to improve a variety of skills.  She works with students using Pauline Hall’s Piano Time books and Fanny Waterman’s Me and my Piano.

Hand Sewing

Wendy originally comes from Seattle, Washington, USA and has been living in Dublin for over two years.  Both her children are current students at ISD.  From an early age, Wendy has enjoyed learning the very basic and important life skill of sewing.  She learned from her own mother and has produced a lot of interesting creations over the years…some good and some not so good!  Having the ability to design and create is what inspires Wendy to continue to sew and she looks forward to sharing the basics of hand sewing with your children.  This simple life skill will be taught in a safe, fun and creative environment where your kids will sew easy and fun projects that will encourage their creativity.   It will be “sew” fun!

Games in Spanish

This session is taught by Ms. Silvia our Head of School and/or Mr. Pedro our Grade 3, 4 teacher.  The aim of this session is to immerse students in an after school club that is conducted in Spanish.  Ms. Silvia and Mr. Pedro will teach students a variety of indoor and outdoor hands on games, steering away from technology dependent entertainment.  Students will learn new forms of entertainment to use with friends and family members.

Jumping Clay

This session is taught by Ashley Brennan.  JumpingClay is a light, soft, jasmine scented, safe, non-toxic mess free clay.   It can be rolled into a ball, bounced and manipulated with creativity.  It is composed of water and dissolving fillers that allow it to dry at a steady rate, preventing any cracks from forming, or it falling apart during the process. In this session, students will attend a weekly creative workshop that focuses on experiential learning.  Students will craft different creations each week that they can take home the very same day. You can learn more about jumping clay at http://jumpingclay.ie.

Multi Sports

This session is also taught by Mr. Philip.  Mr. Philip will work with students in the school yard to expose them to a variety of different sports such as: Rugby, Basketball, Football, Netball and more.  He will focus on allowing students to experiment through games that focus on: invasion/territory, net/wall, striking/fielding and target.
