Hudson David McNeel Foundation – September monthly feature

HDM Foundation: How long have you been working for yourself in the fashion industry?

→ I have been in the fashion industry for nearly 10 years now after leaving a career in Operations within corporate America. I started working for myself when my son was 3 years old and my daughter was 10 months old. I come from an entrepreneurial family as my parents ran a family furniture business for 40 years, so I always knew I wanted to work for myself.

HDM Foundation: What made you decide to donate part of your income to charitable causes?

When I started my business in 2010, I was using it as a way to stay busy and ease my way back into corporate America because I always thought I would eventually go back to work. I was excited that I had found a way to work for myself on my terms in a flexible way around my family, but I was even more excited that I had found a vehicle to help people with fundraising. I made a commitment to myself that I would use my business to help people fundraise every month through my style sessions.

HDM Foundation: There are so many causes out there, so why do you choose to support the Hudson David McNeel Foundation?

I chose to support the Hudson David McNeel Foundation after first learning about it from a good friend of mine. As a mother, I immediately felt a connection to the cause and wanted to do what I could to help. Even if it was just a small part, I knew I wanted to be involved to help fund the NICU at UW Medical Center. Since meeting and getting to know Warren and Heather and recognizing the time and passion they pour into their Foundation to honor their son, I am committed to continually supporting the Hudson David McNeel Foundation through my business.

How do you see the Hudson David McNeel Foundation fitting into your long-term charitable giving plans?

I would love to continue to partner with Hudson David McNeel Foundation through style events, helping to raise awareness and funds for the NICU at UW Medical Center.  I also have ongoing opportunities within my business community to nominate the Hudson David McNeel Foundation as a recipient from the proceeds of one of our local Park Lane community events.  In addition, I would like to continue to sponsor events like the Pitter Patter 5k fundraiser, which was a fantastic event that my whole family enjoyed for a great cause.
