New Sculpture Park Unveiled
Passing along the Kirtipur Ring Road, you will see an unusual sight for the next week. Boulders line the side of the road and the sound of power saws fills the air as stone sculptors work on creating unique artworks for Kirtipur’s newest park.
For fifteen days, artists are in residence to carve representations of the war with the Gorkha army during Nepal’s unification. Faces and weapons are starting to take shape as the sculptures progress.
The War Memorial Park, underneath Bagh Bhairab Temple, was inaugurated last week as work began and the park will see a large area redeveloped into a welcoming community green space.
When completed next Thursday, the stone sculptures will be a visual reminder of how hard Kirtipur fought to defend its territory.
