Writing Directions/Choices for this week: April 20th

As we continue with our spring theme for writing, let’s think about other important and interesting things that are happening...spring is a time of new life in the animal and plant kingdoms. Also, Earth Day is April 22nd and this year is the holiday’s 50th anniversary! Choose from the prompts below to write about this week. Your writing can be fiction or nonfiction, depending on how you decide to write about your topic…as always, you may make illustrations as well...

  1. Choose any plant you find interesting, or just one you like… write a nonfiction review or a fictional story about it. You may include: life cycle, history, where it grows, uses etc. For this, you may want to research the type of plant first so you have accurate facts. Otherwise, simply write a story with plant(s) as the main topic or character!

  1. Creative Writing: Animals: Choose an animal and write a story about it. It can be about a magical animal, a trickster tale, fairytale or any fantasy with the animal as the main character!

  1. Earth Day: Write a persuasive letter to someone about saving and showing gratitude for our planet; what you love about it and why is important for us to take care of it responsibly. Last, include details about how we will do this now, and in the future.

  1. Creative Writing: Our Earth: Imagine you traveled in space and met someone from another planet or galaxy...as you get to know each other, you are asked about what planet earth is like where you came from. Write a story about your new adventure and how you would describe your home planet….use 5 senses to describe earth etc. and be as detailed as you can.
