✴ Board of Education Update and Announcements

UPDATE

The Board of Education (BOE) and Community Advisory Committee (CAC) voted to present the following options to the BOE on Monday, December 3 as the recommendations for the 2019-2020 school year:

Option I/II a

All Elementary schools become K-6 with the addition of flex space and or portables until

such time that the CMS is reopened or new space is found for either.

Option VIII b

Find a rental location to house a 6th Grade Academy and keep all elementary schools

K-5.

Option VIII c

Find a rental location to house CMS.

As a Committee, we rejected

Option IV

All 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students attend BMS with a 9-period schedule from 8 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.

Option IV includes 1300 students plus staff in one middle school.  The recommendation to reject Option IV was based on parent feedback, loss of instructional time, safety and security concerns, social and emotional concerns, lack of space and negative teacher feedback.

The BoE will vote on Monday, December 10. Staples High School Cafeteria, 7:30pm

Let your opinions be known! Teachers, we want to hear from YOU!

The Pianist of Willesden Lane at the Westport Country Playhouse

On December 16th at 3PM, come to the Westport Country Playhouse for a performance of The Pianist of Willesden Lane, an exquisite musical exploring the Kindertransport from Vienna to England in 1938 told with sensitivity through music, that will be followed by an age-appropriate discussion with our community’s Holocaust survivors. This exchange will help us educate our children about the Holocaust in a sensitive and safe way, while teaching the importance of standing up against bigotry and hatred, and the transformative power of hope.
