Expanding Horizons: An introduction to EU funding

You would like to get your share of European funding - but you don’t know where to start? Many public engagement institution are involved in EU-funded projects, however for newcomers this world might seem overwhelming.

Framework programmes, societal challenges, cross-cutting issues, calls for proposals, work packages… what is all this EU jargon about? How to enter the world of European-funded actors? How to build a strong partnership? And how to make sure your proposal is amongst the best?

The Ecsite team is offering a one-day pre-conference workshop aimed at science engagement professionals who know little about EU funding but also those who have some experience but want to get better at writing proposals and increasing their chances of getting funded.

This workshop will focus on the European Commission’s Research and Innovation Framework Programme (currently “Horizon 2020”, from 2021 “Horizon Europe”).

Facilitators: 

Carmen Fenollosa is a senior Project Manager at Ecsite where she manages a number of H2020 projects including FIT4FOOD and RETHINK. She also works in SISCODE and GRACE. She has contributed to the writing of multiple H2020 projects many of which were successful. Before joining Ecsite, she spent most of her professional career working in the cultural and creative industries field.

Maria Zolotonosa is a Senior Project Manager at Ecsite and a co-founder of Stikydot. At Ecsite, Maria looks after EU-funded projects from proposal development to project coordination. Maria was the coordinator of the Ecsite-led Sparks project, which was composed of 33 partners with a total budget of 3.5 million EUR. As part of Stickydot, Maria often gets hired to write H2020 proposals, she has also been working as the evaluator for the European Commission

Didier Laval  is a consultant, trainer, and Public Engagement Associate to the University of Bristol. He has been writing and managing European projects for several institutions, including Ecsite. Specialized in Science & Society topics, he has built training sessions on EU-funded projects for the French network of science centres and museums (AMCSTI) and is regularly evaluating proposals and projects for the European Commission.
