Updates and Reminders for the week ending 11/21/25

This Week We…

Math: Students continued learning subtraction strategies, including “take what you need”.

ELA: Students wrapped up “The Legend of the Bluebonnet” this week and worked on Thanksgiving activities.

Phonics:  We completed unit 8 this week: r-controlled vowels.  We focused on /ar/ and /or/ this week.

Science/ Social Studies: Students discussed the three types of matter: solids, liquids, gases.  We rotated classes to do experiments/fun activities!

Next Week We Will…

Math: Students will continue with subtraction strategies when we return after winter break, beginning with place value disks.

ELA: We will start our new story, focusing on the fable “Johnny Appleseed”.  Students will be able to determine the central message from the story.

Phonics:  Students will begin unit 9, focusing on 3 r-controlled sounds: /er/, /ir/, and /ur/.  We will focus how all of those sound the same, so using strategies to determine the best fit for the word.

Science/ Social Studies: We will focus on resetting classroom expectations when we return.

Moments to Celebrate!

It’s hard to believe that we have made it to winter break!  We have shared so much with each other this year, and we are looking forward to watching our students show even more growth when we return.  We are so thankful for our parents, your support directly impacts the success we see in 2nd grade!  We hope you enjoy your much deserved winter break, and have fun with family and friends!  Please make sure to work on the winter reading packets over the break to ensure your child continues to stay caught up in reading and in math!

We Need Your Help

• Make sure your child is at school on time, walking in by 7:57 each morning!
• It is important that your child come each day with a full water bottle, and a snack!  Please make sure the snack is separate from lunch for easy access.
• Make sure your child has tennis shoes for their PE day.
