CHICAGO JAPAN FILM COLLECTIVE:
Celebrating the 4th Edition of the Midwest's First Japanese Film Festival

Chicago, IL — The Chicago Japan Film Collective (CJFC) returns in 2024 with an exciting lineup of 11 films under the theme of "Co-existence." This year’s program features two theater and nine online screenings, including six international premieres, three U.S. premieres, and two North American premieres, with three women-directed films.

The festival will kick off on Sunday, November 17, with House of Sayuri at the iconic, newly renovated 700-seat Music Box Theatre, in partnership with Hakutsuru’s SAYURI sake. Directed by horror master SHIRAISHI Koji, this film promises an electrifying start to the festival.

On November 24, the festival will close with Qualia, directed by USHIMARU Ryo, who also has an acting career. Qualia adds a reflective note to the festival, exploring emotional and personal journeys, making for a powerful conclusion.

For the second year, CJFC X will spotlight films from collaborations with Japanese festivals. This year's selection includes 99% Cloudy... Always from the Tanabe Benkei Film Festival and Esper X Private Detective Agency - Searching for Good-Bye - from the Jimbocho Film Festival (JMF).

In a new collaboration for 2024, the festival will stream on the SAKKA platform, opening more opportunities for U.S. distribution. The online selection includes two documentaries and seven feature films, allowing broader audience access to these remarkable works.

The CJFC Executive Committee organizes the CJFC, led by founder Yuki Sakamoto Solomon (President, Coyote Sun Productions) and co-founder KONO Hiroshi (President, Mar Creation), and sponsored by CATCH US PERFORMING ARTS (CUPA). The CJFC continues to bridge cultures through Japanese cinema, showcasing films that foster mutual understanding between Japan and the U.S. while highlighting diverse voices.
