Evidence about the monitoring of MY implementation
Reminder: My intervention - deliberate teaching for 15 mins everyday for each group. Learners are grouped in different groups according to their individual learning needs.
What were we up to?
Before the second Lockdown ...
- we were in our third week of the intervention
- target students were getting use to our rotations and the routine
Before kids went home on lockdown I made work for them (both online and hard copies). The hard copies were dropped off to their own individual homes. The online work was through our class sites via school website.
During the 2 weeks of lockdown parents sent work done by their children. This was really good knowing that my learners were working. One thing I wasn’t sure of was how much work done by my learner independently without being supported by their parents.
After Lockdown ….
- only few students came back on the first week of coming back
- 2 target students never came back
- children got tested few days after coming back
- after 4 weeks of my intervention - here is the result I got from learners
- the most improvement child was a boy who came back to school on day one after lockdown
Data collected:

Monitoring Evidence, Sharing and Interrogation.
What was happening for students? (after the second lockdown)
- smaller group teaching - instead of 7 students per group, sometimes 3 or 4 students in a group
- deliberate teaching every day - expectations was high on children’s performance
- rotations was easily followed - less students in class - less interruptions
- easy to do one to one teaching
- students were engaged because of the small group
How learners were experiencing the intervention?
(including any impact noticed on learner outcomes)
- children loved hands on activities provided - especially working in small groups
- more opportunities for chn especially not the targeting students to get to learn better with other learners
- sometimes it can be lonely / difficult for learners to work on their own in a small group - teacher to be flexible
- less students in a group enhances the opportunities for learners to practise more with the teacher
- children loved having short breaks
What have I changed in my teaching practice since I have noticed the above impact?
- more micro-formative assessment being done
- mixed ability groupings is good but teachers must be careful when grouping students
- give short breaks
- more independent time for chn to work and for teacher to roam and help individually

Next Steps:
- Check chn’s writing if they are applying the same skills when writing their story.
- Evaluate this: What does LEARN - CREATE - SHARE look like in my class?
