JOHN JAY DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Today is day 1

There is NO Student Government meeting today. I'm not sure where that announcement came from.

Our next meeting is Monday 1/8 after school in room 226! This is an important Winter Carnival meeting.

Please be advised that BOCES/BARD will be closed on Tuesday, January 2nd.  The last day of classes before the holiday break is Friday, December 22nd.  BOCES/BARD will reopen for classes on Wednesday, January 3rd.

Classes at John Jay H.S., will be in session however, BOCES / BARD will be closed.   All John Jay AM BOCES/BARD students will be directed to the Cafeteria.  AM BOCES students electing to arrive at John Jay late, for their 6th period class (11:50-12:36pm), are required to provide their own transportation to school.  

PM BOCES students will be directed to the library from Periods 6-8.  Students who wish to have early departure, must provide their own transportation and have parental permission to do so. Parental permission for early dismissal should be sent to the Attendance Office at: johnjay.attendance@wcsdny.org.

Attention Senior Families: Our 2024 Graduation Ceremony will be held here at John Jay (Rain or Shine) on June 26, 2023 @ 7 pm, more details will follow in the very near future!

Help make this holiday season merry and bright for those seeking shelter from domestic violence. Girl Up will be collecting gift cards for Grace Smith Holiday drive. Please bring gift cards in any amount for any store to room 220 by December 20th. 

The JJ Talent Show is back and we are looking for hosts and students or teachers with talent for the 2024 show. Auditions will begin after the holiday break. If you are interested, please fill out the form and look for the QR code on the flyer for more information. The JJ Talent Show is going to be on Friday, February 9th, 2024 at 6:00 pm. 1st quarter honor roll has been posted on the English Wing bulletin board?

Attention John Jay Students: It has come to our attention that unregistered vehicles have been parking in the JJ Senior Lot. As of  December 7, 2023, at the entrance of the senior lot, we will have a dedicated staff member closely monitoring the parking lot and checking daily for parking permits. Disciplinary actions such as lunch detention, ISR, suspension and revocation of parking privileges may occur for any unregistered drivers found in the lot.  

In addition, for the safety and security of all students and staff, while on campus please adhere to the 5 M.P.H. Speed Limit. Students who fail to comply with the 5 M.P.H. speed limit, may face disciplinary actions and/or lose the privilege to park on premises.

Please note that all transcript request forms are due by Friday, December 8th for any college application deadlines between January 1st, 2024 - January 10th, 2024.  In addition, your colleges MUST be in the applying column in SCOIR for these requests to be properly processed.  Please refer to the email entitled "College Application Reminders" for more details.  If this step is not complete, you run the risk of materials not being submitted in a timely manner.

CLUBS:

The John Jay Debate Club competed at Dutchess Community College this past Friday.

The team of Maryella Post, Rudeeya (Hrudya) Talasila, and Erica Hamdi finished among the top five teams.  Cailin Andriello and Wynter Ross finished among the top seven individual debaters. And the Debate Club President, Shreya Gupta finished as the first place individual debater in the whole competition. Congratulations!

FBLA will be meeting Wednesday 12/20 in RM 145 at 2:30.  ALL ARE WELCOME

UPDATE ON OUR Stock Investment Club meeting: Our meeting has been rescheduled to  Tuesday 12/19. It will be in Rm145 at 2:30. New members are welcome

Jay UNITED will be hosting meetings every other Wednesday starting October 25th.  Join the google classroom! Code: eubkpvn. All are welcome! Come join and learn about the many diverse cultures and traditions around the world!

John Jay's Girl Up Club -  Come to Girl Up's meetings will be held every other  Wednesday, (which started on October 4th) at 2:20 in room 220.  All are welcome, we hope to see you there!

SADD Club:  Are you interested in mental health, traffic safety, and substance abuse prevention? SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) will be having meetings on Wednesday after school! Come and join us to learn more about SADD and all that we do at John Jay!

The JJ Health + Med Club    If you are interested in pursuing anything in health/medicine, join the JJ Health + Med Club! They meet every Wednesday in Room 205.

JJHS Robotics Teams meet on Fridays after school in Room 171 B.  New members are welcome.

CONGRATULATIONS 

to JJ 2023 girls Volleyball team.

We were awarded the Sportsmanship Award by the

Mid Hudson Valley Officials Association. 

This is the second time we have been awarded with this high honor in the last four seasons.  

Athletes of the Week 12/4/23 - 12/10/23

Brandon DellaPia, Wrestliing- (grade 11) Went 5-0 this week helping the Patriots beat Port Chester 49-24, White Plains 55-16, and winning the 152-pound championship by beating the top seed at the Patriot Invitational Tournament.

Eliseo Fernandez, WCSD Swimming (RCK) - qualified for sectionals in 2 events, the 200 freestyle going a 1:53.47 and 100 Butterfly going 56.08.

Na'Jae Gainer, Bowling - (Grade 12) bowled the team high game of 150 in a 7-0 win versus RCK.

Grace Kennedy, Basketball - (grade 12) The team went 3-0 in their first week of games. Grace was a catalyst of our success making timely plays and hitting clutch free throws in all 3 wins!

Kiley Kroohs, WCSD Gymnastics  (grade 10) tied for 1st place in the vault in the team's opening home meet w159.25-145.35 home win over Scarsdale.

Joe Lachowicz, Bowling - (grade 11) bowled a 237 to help the team earn a 7-0 win versus Carmel.

Congratulations to Wappingers Gymnastics who won their meet against Scarsdale Sunday!

Class of 2026 will be having a Bake Sale on TODAY, December 18th during all lunch periods.  Please support the bake sale by bringing in a baked good ! Baked Goods can be dropped off at the Front desk with the Class of 2026 written on them or they can be given to Mrs. Walsh in the gym.
