To Avô and Avò - Stephanie De Sousa (3rd yr Media Production Internship)

Fascinated by music’s relationship with memory recall and its ability to transcend time, Stephanie wanted to pay tribute to her grandparents’ love story. When her grandparents were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, Stephanie learned that listening to music can help provide a link to a patient’s past. She wanted to make something that could share their story and transport them back in time to their village in Portugal. In the rest of her podcast she explores the music of her grandparent’s favorite artists and tells the story of their journey to Canada.

Networks of Sound - Madeleine Hackborn (RTA 104 F2020)

Madeleine has always been interested in two subjects, music and mysticism. Yet she always considered them as separate entities. That all changed when she began studying music, specifically jazz based performance. When learning about the greatest jazz musicians, she found an underlying connection, an altered state of consciousness. When improvising they described meditative experiences. These artists understood the spirituality of music. Music is one of the most powerful forces on earth, a way of connecting a listener to something bigger than themselves. This podcast will include interviews with musicians, healers and therapists. In this feature we meet Madeleine’s grandmother Marcia,  listen in on a session with a medium and listen to some original music compositions..
