Computer Network & BYOD Information

General computers at school - the school is responsible for:

• Supplying computers for staff and student use - there are two specialist rooms - J1 and J2; a general computer room; computer pods in the library and computers in most classrooms.
• Monitoring activity and use of these computers, the network and the internet.
• Promoting the safe and appropriate use of these computers and developing digital citizenship.
• Providing a wired and wireless network.
• Providing internet access when required.
• Maintaining a filtering system to protect all users.

The school has the right to:

• Monitor the network for balanced use.
• Inspect the network allowing for student privacy.
• Prohibit device or network use.
• Expect that students will follow these rules.
• Report serious breaches.

Student Own Devices

At this stage students are not required to bring their own devices for school purposes. If students choose to bring cell phones, tablets or any other devices to school, the following policy applies.

Students are responsible for:

• Making sure any device they bring is charged at home.
• The contents on the device.
• Security, breakage and damage to the device.
• Keeping passwords secure.
• Only using the device for teacher-directed appropriate tasks.

Rules for school owned computers and equipment and your own devices.

At all times:

• DO NOT share passwords with other students
• DO NOT bully or encourage self-harm of any student through social media or texting.

During school hours:

• DO NOT take photos, make movies or record sound without permission of the people involved.
• DO NOT upload to social network or other sites any content obtained while at school without permission.
• Sites are blocked for a reason, do not attempt to bypass these restrictions, use 3G data to bypass them or bring objectionable material to school.

During class time:

• Follow teacher instruction and stay on task.
• Use the internet only as directed by the teacher.
• DO NOT change any settings or parts on school computers.
• DO NOT text, make phone calls or use social media without permission.
• DO NOT take photos, make movies or record sound without written permission from your teacher and of anyone being recorded, filmed or photographed.
