Liliana Risi: Where are we growing leaders for climate health creation and equity? Think the Royal Colleges have a crucial role in future leadership and the RCGP North East London Faculty is leading upwards despite challenges

https://twitter.com/RCGP_NELondon/status/1602370282739699716?s=20&t=AsETYZ6Pk7e5C Wxr89Du5g

00:33:04.802,00:33:07.802

Pallavi Devulapalli: Could someone touch upon what obligations the ICBs have to reach net zero please, and any examples of how they are going about delivering it

00:33:27.461,00:33:30.461

Veena Aggarwal: To all of the nations - what proportion of emissions have reduced since the commitment to date, and how likely are we to hit the targets we have set by 2030 and then 2040/2045?

00:34:45.851,00:34:48.851

Grace Marshall: Hi Pallavi - As per the Health and Care Act 2022 English ICBs and hospital Trusts are legally bound to the 2040 & 2045 net zero targets. All Trusts and all ICBs have Green Plans which should be on their websites containing future plans and examples of work already underway

00:45:59.201,00:46:02.201

Chris Newman: The Net Zero Strategy Review out this week talked a lot about public engagement - how can the NHS in England, Scotland and Wales better engage the public on climate change as a health concern?

00:46:54.078,00:46:57.078

Patricia: Animal agriculture produces more greenhouse gases than transportation globally. Switching to a plant-based lifestyle is the most effective individual action to fight climate change. What are the initiatives within the NHS to tackle this problem?

00:47:05.643,00:47:08.643

SanYuMay Tun: Nick mentioned small projects funded to £5-15k, what system has been set up to disseminate and multiply these results across the NHS?

00:47:52.403,00:47:55.403

Anandita Pattnaik: Haha, thanks Nick and Elaine!

00:48:18.158,00:48:21.158

David Pencheon: Good question Chris. As you say: talk about CC as a health issue not just an environmental issue. Secondly, **listen** to the public discourse respectfully in order to get the framing of our case most effective

00:49:28.739,00:49:31.739

Lynne Hamilton: NHS Boards in Scotland are facing unprecedented financial pressures post covid. Is there additional ring fenced resources to be shared with Boards to support addressing the agenda? Lots of issues faced at local level trying to seek funding of invest to save (co2 and £) programmes at present

00:52:50.740,00:52:53.740

Paul Fraser: Do you have advice for non-NHS healthcare orgs who are part of the UK healthcare system and looking to become net zero? At Hospice UK we're supporting hospices to become more sustainable, so are keen to avoid reinventing the wheel, but also complement/align to what the NHS is doing.

00:53:48.053,00:53:51.053

Maggie W: There are some particular issues for those of us who live in sparsely populated remote, rural or island areas around fuel sources, distances to travel, lack of community services and facilities, sparse public or community transport - for whom the national targets are impossible to achieve as they are currently framed - is there an existing, or a need to establish, remote and rural sustainability network that can help us to address these in different ways?

00:54:22.223,00:54:25.223

David Pencheon: Paul: ?track down Veena Aggarwal (who may be on this call) who works in both these worlds. She will have good advice..

00:54:52.023,00:54:55.023

David McK: Are there any efforts (eg by NICE) to review interventions by carbon impact as well as health and finance impact?

00:55:15.713,00:55:18.713

Paul Fraser: Thanks David Pencheon!

00:56:43.982,00:56:46.982

David Pencheon: David McK: yes, NICE have long being trying to address this in their guidance. Contact them and offer to help?

00:58:56.024,00:58:59.024

Melissa Pegg: Centre for Sustainable Health Quality Improvement courses, education and resources: https://www.susqi.org/

00:59:34.404,00:59:37.404

Liliana Risi: Does the framework that we use matter in the way we understand the problem? A Syndemics framework is an evidence informed approach that joins the dots until we have a better way to engage our clinical communities in owning the problem

00:59:37.032,00:59:40.032

Dom Brown: How do you know what the carbon footprint of primary care is Nick ? or are we excluded from these figures ?

01:00:15.176,01:00:18.176

Pallavi Devulapalli: I need to leave, could we have some brief notes from this meeting please if possible?

01:00:17.759,01:00:20.759

Thomas Daniels: Thanks Mel Pegg. NHS should be adopting and supporting widespread role out of this SusQI program; it should not be solely dependent on a charity

01:04:38.281,01:04:41.281

Chris Newman: Re: that question. A British equivalent of 'Ley Yolanda' would be helpful which comes from Argentina and mandates the executive, judiciary and legislative branches of government to do 16-20 hours of climate training. It came into force 3 months ago.

01:06:21.011,01:06:24.011

David Pencheon: Frank: your work with WHO re Economy might find the WellBeing Economy Alliance work useful (strong in Scotland) https://weall.org/

01:07:43.251,01:07:46.251

Melissa Pegg: @Thomas Daniels I completely agree with long term implementation being the key to success

01:09:22.425,01:09:25.425

Sue Atkinson: Good to hear the Scottish government recognising interconnectivity between NHS 'crisis' CC 'crisis' economic 'crsisi' etc

01:09:32.479,01:09:35.479

Sue Atkinson: perhaps can act as a model for other governments

01:11:22.773,01:11:25.773

CMO Wales: Thanks for that link, David P

01:13:25.486,01:13:28.486

01:15:55.194,01:15:58.194

Terry Kemple: 1. How are the 4 UK countries NHS learning from each other about what works best in decarbonisation of healthcare in their countries. 2. What other countries healthcare decarbonisation progress are worth watching?

01:16:24.640,01:16:27.640

Liliana Risi: Using a Syndemics Framework can help system leaders capture health creation sustainable activities already happening in the system such as social prescribing

01:16:34.551,01:16:37.551

Dom Brown: also check out https://plantbasedhealthprofessionals.com/

01:16:39.805,01:16:42.805

01:17:41.703,01:17:44.703

Melissa Pegg: a procurement time barrier is an excellent green metric thank you Nick!

01:17:46.660,01:17:49.660

Liliana Risi: Our RCGP North East London Faculty had a vegetarian only meal offer since 2016 at events so it is possible if leaders choose this

01:17:48.316,01:17:51.316

Veena Aggarwal: Hi Paul happy to connect but I think yourself and Kate Crossland know more on this than me. Well done on your great work! i have linked in some interested colleagues from

PAH into Kate's network and some of the senior leadership into your hospice UK network.

01:24:47.398,01:24:50.398

Liliana Risi: Syndmeic framework

01:25:20.158,01:25:23.158

John Logan: It would be very helpful if a note of the resources referred to in presentations and question answers, and the hypertext links put in the chat, could be collated and emailed out to all participants - for further sharing / dissemination.

01:25:24.426,01:25:27.426
