From the Headteacher:
Children’s mental health
Mental health issues in children are sadly on the increase. In order to recognise this, Hagbourne school will be taking part in ‘Inside out day’. This day invites the children to wear an item of clothing ’Inside Out’ as a way of making us all stop and think about how someone may look OK on the outside, but inside they may be feeling sad or worried. It is a day to remind everyone to always be kind and think of others as no one knows how another person may be feeling. On this day children can wear a t-shirt or jumper inside out instead of their school shirt/ jumper. They will need to wear school uniform on their bottom half. Please send your child in with a £1 which will be donated to the ‘ifucareshare’ charity which supports emotional wellbeing in young people.
Anxiety can be difficult to manage as a parent and hard to understand as a child. Keep your eye out for a parentmail this week which has a link to a useful booklet about anxiety including what anxiety is, how to spot the signs, tips for parents, tips for young people and where you can find more help.
Jenny Sutell will be leaving us at the end of this half term as she is moving to sunnier climates! Jenny has worked with us for over four years during which time she has taught all year groups and has been involved in our RE and health and wellbeing curriculum. Although Jenny will be greatly missed, we all wish her the best of luck in her new adventure!
Some of the dinner supervisors have expressed a concern about the number of whole sandwiches they are finding on the floor every day in the dinner hall. If your child has a packed lunch, please could you hold a conversation with them and check they are still enjoying the contents of their lunch as a number of them must be coming home rather hungry at the end of the school day.
Author visit from Matt Brown
Last Wednesday, key stage 2 enjoyed a fantastic visit from Matt Brown. The school hall was filled with laughter and smiles, as the children listened to Matt tell them all about how he became a writer and what inspires him. Matt also gave them lots of tips on how to improve their own writing, including taking ideas from things around them. He then met children individually who had purchased one of his books and signed their copy.
On Sunday 26th January, representatives of year 4 attended the annual Christingle service at St.Andrew's Church. The children assisted Rev.Louise leading the service, reading beautiful poems and prayers they had prepared for our school Christingle last week. Mrs Dendy was very proud of her pupils and would like to thank the children and their parents for attending.

We are still looking for minibus drivers, please see below:
Are there any willing parents out there who have time on their hands and would be happy to take a minibus driving test? Although several of the TAs can drive the minibuses, we aren’t always able to take them from classes. If we had a couple of parent drivers who would be willing to go on school trips that would be an amazing help to all of us. If you are interested, please let Sammy know and we can arrange this for you. It will not involve you paying for anything as school will cover the costs.
Please can we ask that all children have a named coat in school every day.

Open Morning on Tuesday 11th February at which parents and children can enjoy a guided tour of our Senior School, watch lessons in action and meet our staff who will be happy to answer any questions.
We will also be hosting a Year 5 Experience Day on 14th March at which children from this year group are invited to experience what OLA Senior School has to offer. These taster sessions offer a valuable way for parents and children to make an informed decision about their secondary school of choice. The children can participate in a range of fun lessons and activities and get to know our teachers, so that they will leave having gained a helpful insight into what our school is like from a pupil’s perspective.
