Principal’s Message

Parents, Students and Faculty:

I can’t believe it's already February. We had an awesome start of the New Year with our Geography Bee and Play tryouts for Mulan.  Our students who are in the play are practicing most Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays after school.  The play will be on April 12th and 13th at 7:00 and a matinee on Saturday the 14th at 2:00

Folks, it’s time to have a refresher conversation about safety and your expectations for your children as they walk to and from school.  We are asking students to use the walking trails whenever possible.  I have noticed that a few of our students are crossing the streets in locations that are not safe.  Please let them know that they need to go to the corners to cross and use the city crossing guards when possible.  I would also ask you as parents to be on the lookout for children as you drive to and from school and also as you drive in your neighborhoods.  We have had complaints of parents driving over the 20-mile an hour limit in our school zones on Major St. and Ira Hodges/Wood Rd.  Let's keep it safe.

The SAGE writing window is just around the corner, and we are excited to see how we do on that part of the state test.  I have been impressed with the writing our students have been producing over the last bit, and I have seen some very well written essays.  Our kindergarten, first, second, and third grades just finished taking the State middle of the year DIBLES assessment and did very well, especially our Kindergarten with 85% of our students at benchmark.  This is one of the best performances on the DIBLES exam in the DISTRICT. I hope to see the reading levels continue to grow in our primary grades as we learn to read so that later we can read to learn.

I thank you for your continued trust and support in this greatest endeavor of public education.  I truly believe that we are in the process of educating the world's best and finest and it is definitely a collaborative process.  In that vein we would like to get some feedback on how we are doing.  If you could please complete the attached survey we would appreciate it.
