TLDR

• Rewards will be removed from quests.
• Experience earned from quests will be more rewarding than it is now.
• You should not earn less gold or non-gold rewards in the new system.
• The same amount of gold earnings means you can still buy the same number of packs on day 1 of an expansion.
• The intent of the new reward system is to be an upside for all players.

Assuming you play the same amount and have the same quest completion rate, you shouldn't earn less gold or non-gold in the new system. In nearly all circumstances you should be earning slightly more gold and more non-gold (packs, etc).

Our plan is to remove rewards from quests, though the experience you earn per quest on average will net you as much or more rewards as quests give you now.

Something that has come up a lot is the idea that you will no longer be able to obtain the packs you want on day 1, and instead will get a 'drip feed' of packs over the expansion. While you will receive rewards as the expansion goes on, the gold you earn per expansion should remain relatively flat from what you earn now. This should make your ability to buy packs on day 1 similar to what you get now, but with more non-gold rewards added on top.

Our intent with the system is for it to be upside for all players. We've done many checks on different player segments to try and make sure that is the case no matter how you play. Despite all this, we're making XP per level and XP bonuses as tuning knobs in case our predictions were incorrect. We can push legendary quests or give out additional rewards during events as well.

August 2020 Tier 1 Guide: Maiev overtakes the Lich King

Our friends over at HSreplay show Maiev Shadowsong sitting on top of the Average Placement (in Top 20% MMR: 7,600+). Arthas overtake if we look at MMR 6,300 and below. But not by much.

Tier 1

Maiev - 3.85

Lich King - 3.88

Tier 2

Rafaam - 4.11

Kael’Thas - 4.13

The delta between Heroes tightens up big time once we get to Rafaam in third place.

Why is Maiev and Lich King so good?

Constant Hero Power value

Maiev

• Same concept as Rafaam. Stay on Tier 1 until Turn 4.

• Standard leveling curve T2 on Turn 2 or 3. T3 on Turn 5. T4 on Turn 7.
• Think about it. We all agree Rafaam is good. And he gets random minions. Maiev gets to choose.

• Hero Power every turn. Yes, even on Turn 1.
• Picking up pairs feels bad on basically every Hero except Maiev. 1 Gold to pair up. It’s so much easier to justify having doubles hanging out in your hand when they only cost 1.
• Delay triples intentionally to level up so that you can Discover minions from a higher Tavern Tier.

Lich King

• Arthas’s Hero Power used to only target the right-most minion. That was very limiting.
• It also used to cost 1.
• Now after two changes Lich King can target any minion in his warband to give Reborn and it is completely free.
• Pairing this with certain Deathrattles or minion abilities can yield extremely high value.
• It can equal massive stats. Or essentially give you an 8th minion slot in combat.

Value Minions

• Beasts
  They’re very strong after the most recent patch and have two comps that can carry to a 1st place victory.

• Early: Grandmother | Mid: Rat Pack | Late: Highmane, Protect Mama, Ghastcoiler | Win: Macaw or Goldrinn

• Dragons

• Mid: Bronze Warden | Late: Nadina (especially against Ghoul counters)

• Mechs

• Early: Mecharoo, Kaboom Bot, Golem | Mid: Deflecto-o, Shredder, | Late: Mechano-Egg, Kangor’s

• Murlocs

• Bagurgle

• Demons

• Imprisoner, Protect your Juggler, Imp Mama

• Divine Shield

A simple one: Which card(s) from SA did y'all underrate / overrate during the reveal season?

        G - Consecrate with Alura. Blessing of Authority. Basically everything new in Face Hunter.

J’s Notes - Voracious Reader (draw til you have 3 cards) is the most played card on HSReplay, and Tour Guide (next hero power is free). Figured they would be good, but they’re all over the place awesome. Overrated Boneweb Egg. Probably Sphere of Sapience as well. It’s found in the Turtle mage, but I thought everyone would play it.

Lord Commander

Decks you were excited for that you wish were better, and decks you hate to play against.

J’s Notes - Small spell mage I guess you’d call it, and Soul Fragment Warlock. Highlander Mage is just better than the Mozaki combo, and the best Warlock deck using fragments is Zoo looking for heals instead of using the whole kit. Not really hating playing against anything right now.

BG question: what hero is the most in need of improvement and how would you change them?

J’s Notes - Galakrond is still the worst by far. Illidan isn’t doing that hot and has never been top of the pile, I would give him the LK treatment. Make the HP targeted so you can choose which minion attacks immediately, but then only let him do one.
