A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF
THE TILLAMOOK COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM’S MAY 17 LEVY
WHEREAS, Libraries are often referred to as “Cornerstones of Democracy,” and
WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson pointed out that, “An educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people,” and
WHEREAS, the Democratic Party is bound by core beliefs that tie the party together: Democrats believe that we're greater together than we are on our own—that this country succeeds when everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same rules, and
WHEREAS, the Tillamook County Library System provides access to the world through print, databases and the Internet for all people in Tillamook County, and
WHEREAS, the Tillamook County Library System provides the people of rural, semi-isolated Tillamook County with all the information people in larger more urban counties take for granted, and
WHEREAS, the Tillamook County Library System is the bridge across the information gap, the place where the fair shot starts, and
WHEREAS, the Tillamook County Library System is the people’s library, a resource developed through public-private partnerships across the County by the people of the County, and
WHEREAS, the Tillamook County Library System is seeking a levy of $0.65 per $1000 assessed value, an amount unchanged for the past 15 years, to continue services to the people of Tillamook County, and
THEREFORE, we, the Democratic Party of Tillamook County in our regular meeting of March 24, 2022, in Tillamook, Oregon, do hereby strongly urge the voters of Tillamook County to continue their support of the Tillamook County Library System with a YES VOTE on the May Levy Ballot.
