If you need research or tutoring assistance with an assignment and you can’t come to the library, the Google Docs and Google Hangouts apps (applications) may be the helpful tools you need.

Google Docs is a free app that makes it possible for two or more people to see and work together on a document at the same time from different locations.  Google Hangouts is a free video-chat app that makes it possible to have a real-time conversation.

These and other Google apps are available to all students at Hiwassee College through the hiwassee.edu student email service.  You can use them from any location (on or off campus) to contact the staff at the Hiwassee College Library and receive assistance.

After logging in to Populi and going to your Hiwassee e-mail, you can locate the Google Docs  and Google Hangouts app by clicking on the nine squares image in the top right-hand corner.  You may have to click on “More” at the bottom to find Google Hangouts.

To use Google Docs, click on it and bring up the document you need help with.  Then click on the blue “Share” button in the top right-hand corner and type library@hiwassee.edu.  To use Google Hangouts, add the Hiwassee College Library (search library@hiwassee.edu) as a contact and start a conversation via video call or messaging.

If you need help getting started, contact us at library@hiwassee.edu or call/text 423-420-1223 to schedule a time so we can show you how to use Google Docs and Google Hangouts.  Please, take advantage of this free service provided in support of your college success.
