French Immersion in Room 11 with Mme Trautrim

About me: Languages and teaching have always been passions of mine - in high school and university I studied French, Spanish, and German, and volunteered in many different classrooms. I have an Honours Bachelor degree in French and a minor in History from the University of Waterloo. I also studied at l’Université de Québec à Chicoutimi as part of my French studies. I earned my Bachelor of Education and French Specialist Qualification at Western University in London, Ontario. I have been a French Immersion teacher at Doon P.S. since 2012.

About French Immersion: I have high expectations for my students. The number one expectation is that the language of communication is French (whether speaking, reading, or writing). We begin the year in oral French with routine expressions and then continue to practice verbs, grammar, and parts of speech to better share ideas and opinions. Students will listen to and read many texts, and write a variety of pieces (fiction and non-fiction) throughout the year. With me, students will study Language, Media, Drama, Geography, and History in French. It is key that your child is exposed to French at home (reading books/magazines/websites, watching/listening to French media - radio, movies/Netflix, books, etc.) to increase vocabulary and understanding.

About communication: As your child navigates their last year of elementary school, it can sometimes feel difficult to stay on top of their homework and everyday schedule. Knowing how important education is to families, I endeavour to be connected with you regarding academics as well as behaviour. I regularly send home a marks page so you and your child can monitor their academic progress. We can also take advantage of several methods of communication to work together to achieve greater success:
