Elementary Math Support/Title I Math In the North Hills School District

In the North Hills School District, progress toward proficiency of grade level standards and individual student growth in math is monitored through a comprehensive review including classroom performance, PSSA data (for students in grades 4 and 5), and universal screening assessments administered at regular intervals during the school year.

Math Support/Title I Math is a regular education support program that is designed to help children in grades 2-5 who are performing below benchmark to meet the state content and performance standards in mathematics. Instruction and practice in the program focus on mastery of essential skills including computation and problem-solving.  Support may be provided through pull-out sessions during LEAD workshop time, allowing students participating in the program to remain in the classroom for the grade level math lesson.  Support may also be provided during the regular math lesson when the math support/Title I teacher pushes into the regular math classroom.

Assessment data is collected periodically during the school year to continually identify students who qualify and those who are ready to transition out of Math Support/Title I Math.

The following universal and benchmark screening tools are used to identify students in need of additional support in math:

Acadience Math Assessment The Acadience Math is a paper and pencil standardized assessment that includes measures of skills that are essential for students to become proficient in mathematics including early numeracy, computation, and problem-solving. The scores indicate whether a student is likely to be “on track” for learning mathematics or may need additional support.

i-Ready Diagnostic The i-Ready Diagnostic provides teachers with a snapshot of student performance relating to grade level and national norms.

Pennsylvania State System for Assessment (PSSA) For students In grades 3-5, the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment, also known as PSSA, measures achievement in mathematics according to Pennsylvania's academic standards.
