Morgan State University graduates to present Black History Month program at Pikesville Middle School

Former student-athletes to discuss the HBCU experience

What:          Three Morgan State University graduates and former members of the university’s football team will speak about the lasting impact attending a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) had on their lives. They will discuss the subject with Pikesville Middle School students in the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) college readiness program. The program is open only to Pikesville Middle School students and is part of an ongoing partnership between the school and Morgan State University.

When:                 Friday, Feb. 26, at 11:35 a.m. and 1:05 p.m.

Background:         The speakers will be:

Marcolm Banks

Banks was a running back at Morgan, and he graduated in 2016. He is now a project administrator at Software Engineering Institute and a graduate student at George Washington University.

Gregory Gibson

A former college linebacker, Gibson graduated from Morgan in 2017. He teaches at Hazelwood Elementary and Middle School in Baltimore City.

Willie Gillus III

Gillus graduated from Morgan in 2017 and was a tight end/long snapper on the university’s football team. He is a physical education teacher at John Marshall High School in Richmond, VA, and head coach of the school’s football team.
