INTRODUCTION

The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented moment in history and has impacted the hospitality industry unlike anything else we have experienced before.  This manual is an introduction to how Busboys and Poets plans to get in front of the situation, stay ahead of the curve and come out on the other side together as one with our values intact.  We will revisit our best practices every day with the ever shifting terrain as we want to provide the strictest safety protocols possible to ensure everyone remains safe.

HYGIENE

• As always, mandatory hygiene will be maintained and practiced throughout all shifts with an additional protocol that includes:
• Hand sanitizers based on at least 60% alcohol and wipes available throughout the restaurant.
• Sanitization and disinfection of tables and chairs with an EPA-approved product to kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus after every use.
• Sanitization and disinfection of frequented surfaces with an EPA-approved product to kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
• Masks available and recommended for all. Paper, cloth, or respirator masks are the best options as suggested by the CDC.
• Gloves available, but only required when preparing dishes and garnishing food and drinks. Hand hygiene should be done before and after wearing gloves.
• Hands should be washed every 20 minutes, after entering the bathroom and after touching common surfaces such as the host's stand, door handles, tables,
• Prohibit physical contact, including handshakes, high-fives, hugs, etc.
• All employee meals will be eaten in the event space while social distancing is practiced.

HEALTH OF STAFF

• Busboys and Poets highly recommends all its employees be vaccinated. With that being said, Busboys and Poets does not require the vaccination of its employees, although we collect the documentation in order to be proactive of any future mandates.
• The hospitality industry is not a work-from-home industry so there will always be exposure risks.  We need to ensure all staff understand those risks. If a staff member does not feel comfortable working at this time, please have them contact Human Resources so they can be taken off of the schedule.  
• All employees reporting to work will be screened for symptoms of COVID-19 and have their body temperature taken as a precautionary measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19 upon arriving at work. Employees should report to their Manager on duty upon arrival at work and prior to entering any other areas of Busboys and Poets property, such as the kitchen or dining room areas.
• An employee who has a fever at or above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or who is experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms will be sent home. HR should be alerted at this time via the COVID form. The employee should seek out COVID-19 PCR testing in a timely manner and no later than 48 hours later.
• If an employee is exhibiting ANY symptoms consistent with COVID-19 including - fever (subjective or 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit), chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, or otherwise feeling unwell, the employee's temperature and answers to respiratory symptom questions will be documented on the COVID-19 Illness Form, and the record will be maintained as a private medical record. That employee will be sent home and asked to provide a PCR COVID-19 test to be uploaded into Paycom (Clue).
• As of 12/28/21, the CDC has updated their recommended quarantine period for confirmed exposure. Individuals who are not fully vaccinated should quarantine for 5 days, if possible, followed by strict mask usage for the additional 5 days. Individuals who are fully boosted should wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure. In both cases, you should seek out a PCR test 5 days after exposure.
• Going forward, we will begin to accept negative Rapid Antigen tests for asymptomatic testing.  This means Rapid Antigen tests will be accepted for the following reasons:

• You have had an exposure and have no symptoms (test 5 days after possible exposure).
• If you show positive results with the Rapid Antigen test, you will need to seek out a PCR or NAAT test immediately.

• Per CDC guidelines, an employee who tests positive for COVID-19 can return to work when:

• At least five (5) days have passed since the symptoms began; AND
• Any symptoms (including fever, cough and shortness of breath) are gone; OR
• If asymptomatic, five (5) days have passed since the time of testing positive.
  In all cases, they should wear a mask for an additional 5 days.

• An employee who tests positive is not required to test again for 90 days, per CDC guidelines.
• An employee who tests positive with a PCR test that is uploaded into Paycom (Clue) will be required to use any available company provided sick leave. As always, employees must request sick leave in Paycom.
• An employee who experiences COVID-19 symptoms while home should not report to work. Instead, the employee should contact his or her immediate supervisor and seek a COVID-19 PCR test asap.
• Any employee that resides in a home where someone has been diagnosed with COVID-19 should seek testing ASAP. If they have not received their booster, they must self-quarantine for 5 days. If the employee tests negative they may return to work, if they can isolate themselves away from the infected inhabitant of the household.
• An employee home due to COVID-19 testing, caring or in contact with someone with COVID-19 symptoms can utilize up to 7 days of company sick leave, as long as that employee provides HR their COVID-19 test results. DC employees may utilize DC Paid FMLA if they do not have enough sick leave accrued.
• On a daily basis, the full restaurant is sanitized at closing. In the event of a suspected COVID-19 case, the restaurant will undergo an additional deep cleaning coordinated by management that day to ensure all surfaces are disinfected as much as possible.
• All employees must check in with the Human Resources Department at the end of their quarantine period to confirm that the employee may resume work.

WITHIN THE RESTAURANT

BEST PRACTICES

• By design, restaurants, in general, do not give guests more space to physically distance themselves from one another.  Tables will be moved at least 6 feet away for social distance, when needed.
• In all locations, we offer “contactless ordering” via our Order & Pay system which will allow the guest to order food on their own without having to interact with a server.
• Disinfectant wipes or hand sanitizers are available and strategically placed throughout the restaurant for both staff and guests alike.
• At times, we may require all guests, older than 2 years old, to wear masks when inside of our spaces, other than when they are eating or drinking. The mask must cover the nose and mouth. This will depend on individual jurisdictions requirements.
• Staff will be continually trained on the importance of frequent handwashing, use of hand sanitizer and avoiding touching their face.
• At times, while utilizing pick-up or dine-in services,  guests must wear a mask to enter the restaurant.  Guests will only be able to remove their masks if they are seated and eating their meal. While guests are moving around the space, they are expected to have their mask on. This will depend on individual jurisdictions requirements.
• Any guests that are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 should be asked to leave the premises.  We should prepare their food in to-go containers and usher them out of the restaurant immediately.
• Remember that as a restaurant group, we are not qualified to give medical advice to guests or staff.

HIGIENE

• Como siempre, se mantendrá y practicará la higiene obligatoria en todos los turnos con un protocolo adicional que incluye:
• Desinfectantes de manos a base de al menos 60% de alcohol y toallitas disponibles en todo el restaurante.
• Sanitización y desinfección de mesas y sillas con un producto aprobado por la EPA para matar el virus SARS-CoV-2 después de cada uso.

• Mascarillas disponibles y recomendadas para todos. Las mascarillas de papel, tela o respirador son las mejores opciones según lo sugerido por los CDC.
• Guantes disponibles, pero solo son necesarios para preparar platos y adornar alimentos y bebidas. La higiene de manos se debe realizar antes y después de usar guantes.
• Se deben lavar las manos cada 20 minutos, después de entrar al baño y después de tocar superficies comunes como el puesto del anfitrión, manijas de puertas, mesas,
• Prohibir el contacto físico, incluidos apretones de manos, chocar los cinco, abrazos, etc.

• Un empleado que tenga fiebre de 100.4 grados Fahrenheit o más o que experimente algún síntoma de COVID-19 será enviado a casa. RRHH debe ser alertado en este momento. El empleado debe solicitar la prueba de PCR de COVID-19 de manera oportuna y a más tardar 48 horas después.
• Si un empleado presenta CUALQUIER síntoma compatible con COVID-19, incluido: fiebre (subjetiva o 100,4 grados Fahrenheit), escalofríos, tos, falta de aire o dificultad para respirar, fatiga, dolores musculares o corporales, dolor de cabeza, nueva pérdida del gusto o del olfato, dolor de garganta, congestión o secreción nasal, náuseas o vómitos, diarrea o cualquier otro malestar, la temperatura del empleado y las respuestas a las preguntas sobre síntomas respiratorios se documentarán en el Formulario de enfermedad COVID-19 y el registro se mantendrá como un registro médico privado. . Ese empleado será enviado a casa y se le pedirá que proporcione una prueba PCR COVID-19 para cargarla en Paycom (Clue).
• A partir del 28/12/21, los CDC actualizaron su período de cuarentena recomendado para exposición confirmada. Las personas que no estén completamente vacunadas deben ponerse en cuarentena durante 5 días, si es posible, seguido de un uso estricto de mascarilla durante los 5 días adicionales. Las personas que estén completamente potenciadas deben usar una mascarilla durante 10 días después de la exposición. En ambos casos, se debe solicitar una prueba PCR 5 días después de la exposición.
• En el futuro, comenzaremos a aceptar pruebas rápidas de antígenos negativas para pruebas asintomáticas. Esto significa que las pruebas rápidas de antígenos se aceptarán por los siguientes motivos:
• Ha tenido una exposición y no tiene síntomas (pruebe 5 días después de una posible exposición).
• Si muestra resultados positivos con la prueba rápida de antígenos, deberá buscar una prueba de PCR o NAAT de inmediato.
• Según las pautas de los CDC, un empleado que dé positivo en la prueba de COVID-19 puede regresar a trabajar cuando:
• Han transcurrido al menos cinco (5) días desde que comenzaron los síntomas; Y
• Cualquier síntoma (incluyendo fiebre, tos y dificultad para respirar) desaparece; O
• Si es asintomático, han pasado cinco (5) días desde el momento en que dio positivo.
• En todos los casos deberán usar mascarilla por 5 días adicionales.
• Un empleado que da positivo no está obligado a volver a realizar la prueba durante 90 días, según las pautas de los CDC.
• Un empleado que dé positivo en una prueba de PCR cargada en Paycom (Clue) deberá utilizar cualquier licencia por enfermedad disponible proporcionada por la empresa. Como siempre, los empleados deberán solicitar la baja laboral en Paycom.
• Un empleado que experimente síntomas de COVID-19 mientras está en casa no debe presentarse a trabajar. En cambio, el empleado debe comunicarse con su supervisor inmediato y solicitar una prueba de PCR de COVID-19 lo antes posible.
• Cualquier empleado que resida en un hogar donde alguien haya sido diagnosticado con COVID-19 debe hacerse la prueba lo antes posible. Si no han recibido su refuerzo, deben ponerse en cuarentena durante 5 días. Si el empleado da negativo, podrá regresar al trabajo, si puede aislarse del habitante infectado del hogar.
• Un empleado que se encuentra en casa debido a una prueba de COVID-19, cuidando o en contacto con alguien con síntomas de COVID-19 puede utilizar hasta 7 días de licencia por enfermedad de la empresa, siempre y cuando ese empleado proporcione a Recursos Humanos los resultados de su prueba de COVID-19. Los empleados de DC pueden utilizar DC Paid FMLA si no tienen suficiente licencia por enfermedad acumulada.
• Diariamente, todo el restaurante se desinfecta al cierre. En caso de un caso sospechoso de COVID-19, el restaurante se someterá a una limpieza profunda adicional coordinada por la gerencia ese día para garantizar que todas las superficies estén lo más desinfectadas posible.
• Todos los empleados deben comunicarse con el Departamento de Recursos Humanos al final de su período de cuarentena para confirmar que el empleado puede reanudar su trabajo.

DENTRO DEL RESTAURANTE

MEJORES PRÁCTICAS

• Por diseño, los restaurantes, en general, no brindan a los huéspedes más espacio para distanciarse físicamente unos de otros. Las mesas se moverán al menos a 6 pies de distancia para mantener la distancia social, cuando sea necesario.
• En todas las ubicaciones, ofrecemos “pedidos sin contacto” a través de nuestro sistema Order & Pay, que permitirá al huésped pedir comida por su cuenta sin tener que interactuar con un camarero.
• Hay toallitas desinfectantes o desinfectantes para manos disponibles y ubicados estratégicamente en todo el restaurante tanto para el personal como para los huéspedes.
• En ocasiones, es posible que exijamos que todos los huéspedes mayores de 2 años usen máscaras cuando estén dentro de nuestros espacios, excepto cuando estén comiendo o bebiendo. La mascarilla debe cubrir la nariz y la boca. Esto dependerá de los requisitos de las jurisdicciones individuales.
• El personal recibirá capacitación continua sobre la importancia de lavarse las manos con frecuencia, usar desinfectante para manos y evitar tocarse la cara.
• En ocasiones, mientras utilizan los servicios de recogida o cena, los huéspedes deben usar una máscara para ingresar al restaurante. Los invitados solo podrán quitarse las máscaras si están sentados y comiendo. Mientras los invitados se mueven por el espacio, se espera que tengan puesta la máscara. Esto dependerá de los requisitos de las jurisdicciones individuales.
• A cualquier huésped que presente síntomas de COVID-19 se le debe pedir que abandone las instalaciones. Debemos preparar su comida en recipientes para llevar y sacarlos del restaurante inmediatamente.
• Recuerde que como grupo de restauración, no estamos capacitados para dar consejos médicos a los huéspedes ni al personal.
