The Education Foundation of BCPS announces new scholarship fund honoring a longtime BCPS educator

Scholarship initiated by Pikesville High School Class of 1969

Towson, MD – The Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools, Inc., has announced a new scholarship fund established in honor of the late Arnold Potler, a veteran BCPS educator.

Potler spent his entire career with Baltimore County Public Schools, with assignments at Sudbrook Middle School and Milford Mill, Parkville, Perry Hall, and Pikesville high schools. In addition to teaching science, Potler served as a department chair and later as a science curriculum advisor and consultant to BCPS. At Pikesville High, he was the class advisor to the Pikesville High School Class of 1969.

“In 2019, we celebrated our 50th high school reunion, where we shared memories of Mr. Potler, our class advisor,” said Michael Greenberg, chair of the scholarship committee.  “We recalled how he was always there for us, with the right word of wisdom and guidance, as we prepared to graduate. We wanted to honor him, and through this scholarship, his legacy will be remembered.”

A powerful advocate for education, Potler was also instrumental in the formation of the Pikesville Schools Coalition, an organization of community groups, educators, and individuals committed to the advancement of Pikesville area schools.

The public can contribute to The Pikesville High School Class of 1969 Arnold Potler Memorial Scholarship on The Education Foundation website,

The Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization that builds and provides resources to serve Baltimore County Public Schools’ students, educators, and schools.
