EAST HARLEM CULTURAL CENTER HOSTS A HAITIAN FLAG DAY CURATORIAL TALK AND ALBUM RELEASE PARTY TO SPOTLIGHT DIASPORIC ARTISTRY.
This free exhibition tour and curatorial talk will feature 'BYENVENI’ curator Yvena Despagne and four visual artists from the exhibition, paying homage to Haiti's legacy as the first Black independent republic.
NEW YORK, NY – The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) invites you join us for BYENVENI Curatorial Freedom Fêt on Haitian Flag Day with BYENVENI curator Yvena Despagne and featured exhibition artists Tasha Dougé and Sabine Blaizin representing OYASOUND this Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the CCCADI Firehouse in East Harlem.
These artists encompass a spectrum of artistic styles, with works spanning from photography and music to conceptual approaches. Experience the exhibition with a guided tour by Yvena followed by a panel discussion between Yvena and the artists. Following the talk, Tasha Dougé will lead participants in an interactive experience in the spirit of freedom based on her exhibition piece, rebòlucion.
BYENVENI, CCCADI’s multimedia exhibition of Haitian Diasporic art, explores Haiti as both a cherished internal sanctuary preserving cultural traditions and religious practices, a space of refuge, a source of boundless joy, and the cornerstone of sovereignty.
BYENVENI will be on display at the CCCADI Firehouse until November 14, 2024. The exhibition is part of Lakay se Lakay: Our Black Nation, CCCADI’s year-long homage that celebrates the legacy of Haiti.
