- Students can pair bluetooth headphones to their iPads.
3. Adjusting Lock Screen Time
- Go to Settings > Display & Brightness
- You can adjust the lock screen timeout to a max of “never” or to a smaller amount of time before it requires your passcode again.
4. What is the Apple equivalent to Screencastify?
- The screen recording feature that is built into the iPad is recommended.
- Go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls, then tap
next to Screen Recording. - Swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen.
- Press deeply on
and tap Microphone. - Tap Start Recording, then wait for the three-second countdown.
- Open Control Center and tap
. Or tap the red status bar at the top of your screen and tap Stop. - Go to the Photos app and select your screen recording.
5. How do you adjust the thickness and color when you write on the iPad within an app?
- With the markup tool in apps like Photos and Notes, you can select different types of writing instruments and adjust the thickness and color.
6. Streaming Video
- It’s recommended you stream video from your classroom desktop computer. This will be the fastest connection.
7. Best way to get into Teacher Access Center
- A TAC app has been pushed out to your iPads.
- We recommend using this app to login to TAC.
8. How do you turn on the screen reader?
- Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Speech or Spoken Content
- Turn on Speak Selection (this will allow you to choose parts of a page to be read)
- Turn on Speak Screen (this will read the entire screen with a play and pause button available)
- Under Voices > English > download Alex and make him your default for the highest quality
9. How do you enable speech to text?
- Go to Settings > General > Keyboards > Enable Dictation (at the very bottom)
- Now the keyboard on your screen will have a microphone next to the space bar
10. Apple Classroom Follow-Up Items
- Is there a place for teachers to leave feedback for Apple?
- Yes. The best way to do this is to send the feedback about enhancements or feature ideas to OH-EDU@group.apple.com. The more concise the better!
- Within an Apple Classroom, can you add a co-teacher?
- This is not a current feature. Leave feedback for Apple about this (see #1).
- Are Apple Classroom class summaries archived somewhere, and do teachers have access to that information?
- At this time, this is not data or information that is saved, stored or archived. In the event a teacher may want to capture this information, selecting that individual student and taking a screenshot may be the best workflow. The screenshot will then be stored in Photos and will be date stamped. A teacher could then create an album for a specific student or class period.
- If you run into a situation where you need to know a student’s search activity, a Securly report can be run for you.
- Accessing the screen time feature on a student’s iPad can also provide insight into device activity.
- Can a teacher view what a student is doing on his/her screen later in the day, even if the student is active in another teacher's Apple Classroom?
- No. Classroom works through the use of Bluetooth and Wifi. Because of this, proximity is a factor. Students physically far enough away, will not be impacted by other teachers. It will be important for teachers to make sure they select End Class, at the end of their class period. Not only does this allow for the summary to be available, but it will also eliminate any concern with this question.
- Each day, when a student automatically rejoins the teacher's Apple Classroom, is that connection over Bluetooth or Wifi?
- The connection occurs using both Bluetooth and Wifi. It's also important to note that students connect with the teacher once the teacher launches/starts the class through the app. Again, getting into this workflow habit of starting and ending at the beginning and end of each learning session will help to optimize the why of the app and summary feature.
11. App Age Restrictions
- Some of the apps, including Adobe apps, may have age restrictions. Some apps are only intended for use by students 13+. We need to abide by age restrictions.
12. Remotes for Apple TV
- Remotes are specific to your Apple TV only
- You can charge these with the same charger as the iPad. Apple says the remote should last months before needing a charge.
- Tap any button or the trackpad at the top of the remote to wake up the Apple TV from Sleep Mode.
- Use the Menu button to remove anyone mirroring to the Apple TV.
13. Projecting onto the Apple TV
- For a larger image on the screen, adjust the iPad by holding it in landscape vs. portrait position.
14. Google Classroom: Opening Documents
- If a student opens a document in Classroom that they have editing permissions to, they may have to click the little icon in the extreme upper right. It’s a little box that has the arrow at a 45 degree angle. That opens the doc so that it can be edited.
15. Collaboration in Pages, Keynote, & Numbers
- If a student is having difficulty adding collaborators to Pages, Keynote, or Numbers documents, check the student’s Apple ID in the Settings app. The student may need to re-enter his or her password to update the Apple ID and verify it.

16. Publishing eBooks in Pages
- You will need to go to the 3 dots (more options), Export then to ePub. Once you export you should get a screen that allows you to open the ePub into the Books app.
17. Charging Tips
- Be sure to charge your iPad with the keyboard attached.
18. Keyboard Issues
- Hold down HOME button and POWER button at the same time until you see the Apple icon (should take about 10 seconds).
- Once you see the Apple icon on the screen release both buttons,
- This is a hard reset which will restart the iPad and re-establish the connection with the case keyboard.
19. Adding thor drive (server space) to iPad Files app
- If you would like to add your thor drive (server space) to your iPad, please watch the attached short video to learn how.
- The server address you will need to enter is 10.89.192.45. You will be prompted to enter your district username (i.e. swiderss) and password.
