Subject: Fwd: Please Forward - Video and District Audition Update

Hello Everyone,

Happy Friday to all and happy last day before break to some of you…not in GCS.

 Video Recordings:

I have had several questions about the video recording process.  We have a few videos up on the CDBA website (www.nccdba.com) that you can view.  However, I have still had a few questions, therefore I made videos yesterday that I hope will help clear up any questions.  Thank you to Michael Capps and Josh Cvijanovic for making videos.

Video 1: Instructions for wind players.  This video is a short description of what we should see, how to set up the camera, and what to say on the video.

Video 2,3,4: Instructions for percussion players.  These videos are a short description of how to set up the instrument, where the camera should be, and what to say on the video.  Please see Josh Cvijanovic’s videos on the CDBA website.

Video 5: Example Scale Video.  This video is an example of what the scale video should look like for all students.  I pretended to be an 8th grade saxophone student and performed the MS alto sax scale (PS – I’m a clarinet player, don’t judge my sax playing  ).  HS directors, please make sure your students understand that they have to play the HS scale requirements.  I know this seems like a ridiculous comment, but our eyes often believe before our ears.  With the example video being the middle school requirements, we don’t want anyone confused about what to play.

The scale video example is also what the solo video should look like, except it should have the solo cut instead of the scales.

A reminder students will submit two videos.

Here is the link to the videos: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rpIbWqH8nzn4FPmTOd_f_WnW71GOyv9o?usp=sharing

We will also put them on the CDBA website.

Finally, no edits, sound effects, etc. should be made to the videos.

District Audition Update:

I have had a question about scale ranges.  Students should perform the scales exactly as written on the Honors Band scale sheet.  Do not add additional octaves to scales.  Example: The 9/10 mallet chromatic scale is two octaves (C4-C6), do not add a third octave.  I am aware that there are private teachers telling students to play the additional octave, please play only what is required.  No additional points will be awarded for extra octaves and additional octaves will adversely affect a student’s score.

Have a great holiday season and good luck to your students.

Thanks,

Jeremy Ray
