CAN I USE THE DFPS ONLINE TRAINING TO MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS?
DFPS online training and post-test satisfies MS requirements as long as there is additional operation-specific, instructor-led training that covers:
- Policies and procedures on administering medication; and
- Who may consent to using psychotropic medications for children who are not in the conservatorship of DFPS.

MUST INCLUDE
- Specifically stated learning objectives
- An evaluation or assessment tool to determine whether the person has obtained the information necessary to meet the stated objectives
- A certificate, letter or a signed and dated statement of successful completion from the training source

INSTRUCTOR REQUIREMENTS
The training must be instructor-led and led by an instructor who is a health-care professional or pharmacist. The trainer must assess each participant after the training to ensure that the participant has learned the course content.

REQUIRED CURRICULUM COMPONENTS
- Identification of psychotropic medications
- Basic pharmacology (the actions and side effects of, and possible adverse reactions to, various psychotropic medications)
- Techniques and methods of administering medications
- Who is legally authorized to provide consent for the psychotropic medication, AND
- Any related policies and procedures, including how to document when a medication is administered

DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS
- You must keep documentation verifying completion of annual training in the appropriate personnel record.
- The documentation may be a certificate, letter, or a signed and dated statement of successful completion from the training source. The documentation may also be a transcript from an accredited college or university.
- For courses other than college courses, documentation must include the following:
- The participant's name
- Date of the training
- Title or subject of the training
- The trainer’s name and qualifications, and
- Length of the training in hours.
- The caregiver retains documentation of successfully completing the DFPS Psych Med Training.
