Announcements Tuesday 12/11/2018

 SENIORS/JUNIORS:

o The deadline to apply for the A-State Privately-Funded Scholarships is FEBRUARY 1, 2019. The online application is located at www.astate.edu/scholarships and click Privately Funded Scholarships. All students who complete the application will be entered to win an additional $250 scholarship from the Recruitment office.

o Ozarka will be here to give the Accuplacer test this Thursday.  If you plan on taking the CNA and have not taken this or the ACT you need to come see Ms Kelly to sign up.  OR if you signed up for a concurrent class and have not taken either come see Ms. Kelly.

o The December ACT has been rescheduled for December 15th, 2018.  Students need to report to the high school office NO LATER than 7:40.  Students must also have their testing ticket printed out when they get her and have a photo ID.  School ID badges will work.  See Ms. Kelly with any questions.

o Modern Woodmen scholarships are available online at www.scholarsapply.org/impact/ to those whose parents are a member of Modern Woodmen.  These are due by January 15th.

o Make sure to get your sonic cards sold quickly and return your envelope and $25 to Nurse Nancy ASAP

o The THEA foundation is hosting a poetry slam scholarship competition on Saturday, March 23, 2019. The Registration deadline is March 18th. You will need three poems, no longer than three minutes long when spoken prepared for the competition. The theme is “grandiose and oversaturated.” This competition is only open to seniors in Arkansas. Please see Mrs. Seat for more information.

SPORTS/EVENTS:

o  Tuesday, Dec. 11.  7th Grade, Jr. High and Sr. High Girls Vs. Batesville.   At Highland.  Games start at 5:00 pm

o  If anyone is interested in playing Rowdy during basketball season, see Coach Lewis

o Library Club Members who are participating in Secret Santa, remember to bring your FINAL gift TOMORROW (Wednesday 12th). Also, CES trip permission slips are due no later than Wednesday morning.

o Will be selling coffee, hot chocolate, and apple cider in Mrs. Brooke's room - room 14.

o If any student is in need of a coat, jacket, scarf or gloves please see Nurse Nancy.

o Wristbands are available for Highland Students for $5.00 that will admit them to all athletic events.  Excluding Benefit games, State Games, Highland Classic and Ronnie Brogdon. Wristbands are available at each campus office.

o  The Department of English at Arkansas State University is hosting a creative writing competition for high school students across the state. Submissions can be essay, fiction, or poetry. Submissions should be turned in to Mrs. Seat no later than February 8th. Winners will be published in an anthology which will be distributed free of charge to the student. Please see Mrs. Seat ASAP for more information.

o Mrs. Seat’s Tech and Business English class will be selling candy and school supplies gift bags for five dollars consisting of: one Yahoo, a full sized candy bar, stress ball, various school supplies, and chips. You can choose to purchase this as a gift and have it decorated or keep one for yourself. See room 109 email Mrs. Seat to order.

ACHIEVEMENTS & ACCOLADES

O Congratulations to the 19 (and one alternate) Highland Band students selected to the All-Region Band this past weekend.  They auditioned along with 900 students from across Northeast Arkansas for these spots.  They will participate in a two day clinic on January 18-19, 2018 at Arkansas State University.

Be sure to congratulate these students when you see them! We're proud of their accomplishments and dedication to academics!
