Sequoia Audubon Society Announces Scholarship Program

San Mateo County, Ca -- In honor of Sequoia Audubon Society’s 70th Anniversary, Sequoia Audubon is pleased to announce a youth scholarship for students age 13-18 to attend the American Birding Associations’ Camp Colorado www.aba.org/camp-colorado/, to encourage youth to pursue their interests in birds, the natural world, conservation, and education.  

This scholarship was made possible by donations In honor of Robin Smith, past president, and Nancy Lecich, a generous donor.

This scholarship is open to students age 13-18 residing or attending school in San Mateo County.  It will cover the cost of registration for he American Birding Associations’ Camp Colorado ($1449), ABA student membership ($25), and travel costs to/from Colorado (up to $250).  Scholarship recipients will also receive a year’s membership to Sequoia Audubon Society.

Students must complete an application (bit.ly/sasscholarship) that includes an essay and letter of recommendation from a teacher or adult mentor.  Here is a worksheet (bit.ly/sasworksheet) of the application that the applicant can use before submitting the digital application form.  It will allow the applicant to see the essay prompt and the link to the letter of recommendation (bit.ly/sasrecommendation) to provide to the recommender in advance.

The deadline to apply is March 1, 2019.
